"Girl, 8, found dead in toilet
From: AAP
June 27, 2006
A MURDER probe is under way today after an eight-year-old girl was found dead in a shopping centre toilet during a family outing in Perth.

The youngster's body was found by the girl's 14-year-old brother in a disabled toilet yesterday afternoon.
A man seen leaving the toilet is being sought by police.

Police spokesman Sergeant Graham Clifford said the major crime squad was treating the death as murder.

Sgt Clifford said the toilet was in a well-used area - near the entrance to a Big W store - of the Livingston Marketplace shopping centre in Canning Vale.

He had no information on the injuries the victim suffered or the cause of death.

He said the girl went missing after going to the female toilets at the same time as as her brother and uncle went to the male toilets.

The brother and uncle began searching the shopping centre and car park after she failed to come out of the female toilets.

"The disabled toilet was engaged when they first searched," Sgt Clifford said.

He said the brother saw a man leave the disabled toilet when he returned from the carp ark and chased the man through the centre, but lost him after he left the main entrance.

"He (the brother) discovered his sister deceased when he returned to the disabled toilet," Sgt Clifford said.

Police were seeking a 27-year-old man with blond hair, and a chubby to muscular build, he said. The man was about 187cm tall, with a fair to pale complexion."

Tragic. what drives a person to behave in such a way, just dreadful.

I cannot write my intentions for this person on a public forum.

I was appalled when I heard this news, a horrendous tragedy. I wondered how long was she out of sight before being found?

This is tragic, I have an 8 year old daughter and I can't imagine the pain that the family is going through at the moment.

Can't say I am an advocate for the death penalty, but events like this really get you thinking again.

Something needs to change..... stuff like this is happening all over the country
and I don't see it stopping while there is no deterant to stop them.
(Jail is a holiday.... not bills, free food, TV... more rights than the rest of us...)

This one is way too close to home for me...... (only five minutes up the road)

As for punishment, let the family deal with that... a smallish room the girls dad and uncle...
if she was sexually assulted, a 6 D Cell Mag-light... (you can fill in the rest as you see fit)

This crab does not deserve to rot in jail...
it cost too much and he will never be able to be trusted in public again.
Save the resorces, water, food, power etc..... An eye for an eye!

You dont know many people who've been behind bars, do you?

Holiday? Especially for a guy who killed a little girl?

Death would be the easy way out for such a nasty crime. I'd much rather someone like that cop 25 years of daily beatings/sodomy. He'll be begging for the death penalty.

This really is the kind of event that stops you dead in your tracks when you hear about it. Awful.

My wife and I were a bit upset by this- we live in the estate just opposite this particular shopping centre and were horrified to hear this.........

I always was grateful for living in what I perceived to be a very safe, clean community where it would be a fantastic place to raise my kids- to date we had been very happy....

Also being a parent now, I can understand how much your kids really mean to you and am so sorry for the parent's loss- there's nothing worse, and under such tragic, unforgivable circumstances is just sickening.

I'm a little bit shaken up by this and probably not getting my feelings across very well, but I hope that "person" gets everything he deserves- there's no word I can think of to describe how sick this is- an 8 year old girl taken so tragically.......

The laws in this country regarding pedophiles are a joke.Little kids are cross examined by the defence and are often to scared to be able to give any evedence. The child should only have to make one video statement that is then used in court. As a result most pedophile cases that make it to court are found not guilty and are let of . Any past cases are not taken into account and as a result these people(if you can call them that) are continually let of. Ther are to many people in powerful positions that are pedophiles or protect them. We need better laws so that these people are taken out of society for good before they graduate to murder as well.

This is the first I have heard about it! I get sick to the stomach everytime something like this happens. I absolutely hate it when a supposed human being can be capable of such cruelty! I cannot imagine what the little girl went through in her last momements and if I try, tears come. What an evil, evil bastard!!!!!!!!

Will he get 25 to life???
It seems they always find a "loop hole"....
And in the end, what good is this person to the rest of us?
When he is let out for "good behavour" after 6 or 7 years... will he commit another crime. (most likely)
If not, he'll sue and/or get a book deal......

Waste him now.... saves time, money and the family of the girls feelings.

The problem I have is, I could walk past the pr**k that did this on the street and not know about it. He could be on his way to scope out another victim and I wouldnt know anything about it nor could I stop him. We are sadly powerless against horrible freaks like this!

Unhappy

Shocked, horrified, disgusted, saddened, angered.

Lets hope they get the person before we jump to the next step of his punishment.

To think that they almost had the guy...to think they were searching the male and female toilets just metres away as this sick thing happened...to think that in 25 years that person will be allowed to walk around in society again.

thats absolutely horrible.

we don't have a punishment that is warranted by such an inhuman act.

whatever happens, I hope the person guilty of that suffers greatly and the family gets the justice they deserve.

It appears AFFers are in support of the death penalty?

Just remember... once the state puts someone to death, there's no bringing them back. Facts are often brought to light after someone faces their execution:

http://www.commondreams.org/news2006/0626-16.htm

I just hope you catch the right guy... the first time...
