Default He who dies with most albums wins!!

Just thought id post a thread with a spin on the ol who dies with the most toys saying, because for me its more about music than toys.

See I was sorting out all of my cds yesterday and i was thinking christ i need a new rack my 300 cd rack is pretty much full and ive also gotta do something about the 50 or so albums i have on vinyl, so im sure there are a few people like me or worse on here so i wanted to see how big/small your collections are.
P.S. no counting burnt coppies you theives lol!!

BTW im 24 so ive still got a few more years of collecting ahed of me lol

Ive got about 350 at the moment, still slowling transferring them to my IPOD. Big job

No records, I had some as a kid but I think buy the time I was buying my own music it was a CD world.

Probably have about twenty odd tapes, that I ended up replacing with Cds anyway.

I probably only have 100 or so CDs (don't know the exact amount, some are still in storage)...
Have probably 50 (maybe more) records - again, don't know for sure as they too are in storage. Not because I wanted to keep them, but because I couldn't justify throwing them away.

500-600 CDs easy, plus another 100-200 promo/demos CDs (fringe benefits from doing a mag and a tiny record label), plus numerous vinyl and cassettes (many also demos..)

yeah, I have a cd collection, but mostly mp3's, which are on my ipod. I love ipod's have for years, i just love the fact in itunes it tells you how many tunes you have and how many days it will take to play them all. I am redoing my ipod as I tried foolishly to load a different boot loader.

but I think it said 40ish days..

btw: does take ages to organise pod's properly.

But never been a real big fan of cd's as there is often on 2-3 great songs from any given band... there is exceptions to this like inxs's "kick" album

Quality over quantity.

A single copy of DSOTM or Love over Gold in SACD is worth 500 cd's of pop rubbish

I must admit i do own a few rubbish popie cds but a majority of mine are lesser known bands espesially my vinyl. So id say i have both quality and quantity.

BTW call me stupid but what are the bands/albums you are talking about?

I've got about the 400 mark, but that is between the missus and myself. It's handy having the same tastes in music.

Running small labels, doing mail-order, etc plus a full-time job is very difficult, and they rarely, if ever, make money.

Actually I hate pop and none of mine are pop. :jab:

I just love my music and follow quite a few independent artists and buy theres to help support them also.

I listen to country, blues and roots type music.

You wont find anything from the top 40 on my cds. Unless you count a couple of older mixed pub rock type cds, which are great at BBQs and parties.

And agree, IPODS are awesome. Its fantastic that you can pick it up and take seven thousand songs with you in one small unit, they are just unreal. Dont know how I survived so long without them.

I download some music from Itunes too, the bulk of my IPOD was from CDs I bought prior to the POD, and some bands and artists I listen to you still cant buy on Itunes, so i still purchase Cds in that instance.

Music is like cars though, each to their own

OT : It's not a true reflection on the topic aka... albums, but I would have close to 1000 ?? mixed mp3 cd's..(10+ years of collecting, can't remember when I got first mp3 was in the early 90's sometime, whenever that format became aval)...

mp3 players will kill the cd player just as cd kill tape/vinyl.. and the best mp3 player is the ipod.

wonder when mp3 players will come standard in vehicle from the factory

i am trying to do a hidden ipod, that you can eject from out of the dash/console. much like ejecting a cd.. push button out it pops.. yes it is 100% w4nk factor! have not really done to much with regards to planning it, just a concept at this stage.

wonder if one day, it will all be on memory cards, 20+ gig memory cards.

back on topic : have a freinds dad that collects vinyl, buys and sells, has two sheds full of them... truely amazing stuff... anything you can think off he has.

Personally i think a "hard copy" format of music will still exist wheather it be cd or some new thing they come up with because people want the cover and the booklet etc i know thats the way i feel anyway, the cd will die a little but IMO the mp3 will just hinder it not kill it entierely

I think the color ipod do this allready, being able to add the cover, I know itunes lets you do this.... (even though its not the same as holding it)

not sure about lyrics and how that would go.

perhaps your right, people like to be able to touch the album, I just can live without it...

A few of the CDs I have downloaded from Itunes have also downloaded the digital booklet, and it appears as PDF format so you can still get the ablum info and lyrics etc.

My IPOD is the video one (60gb?) and it shows the album cover as you play it, but only on the songs or Cds I have downloaded from Itunes.

Its plays videos too, which is a function I thought I would never use (i just wanted the 15, 000 song capacity and was the only one that had that) but I must say, I watch videos on there as well now

....must say Warhead really did put out some fine releases back then & I'm pretty sure I've got their entire back catalogue of releases that still get a regular play...
My collection consist of well over 1300 pieces of cd's, tapes/demo's 12 & 7 inch vinyls (mostly hand numbered) & and a truck load of promo's & unreleased stuff amassed whilst doing a radio program playing mostly death/thrash/noize/oi/power violence stuff etc.
No ipods/ hard drive mp3's or any of that new age marketing garbage here....If I can't pick it up/see the cover/read the lyrics then I don't want to hear it or own it!!

I've got 800+ LP's & 600+ 45's , being a Muso I used to buy the records to learn the songs from . Some records have only been played once to tape it so the records are in great cond. but I'm in the process of recording them to MP3 for easier access and am storing the Vinyls away. Owning a Music shop helped heaps .(1977-1990)
Only have about 30 CD's.

Yeah, Brad was the inspiration behind starting Venomous, but it was a short ride...

I've got an mp3 player, but all my music is ripped from my own CDs, haven't bought a thing from iTunes and don't think I will for the reasons you suggested. mp3s are a good way to introduce yourself to new bands, whereas I usually just buy the latest album from bands I like...

I think the amount of music one owns is not important, its the amount of that collection you purchased back in the 70'/80's/90's or whatever that still warm the cockles of your heart today! Ofcourse it does help if your musical leanings/taste have not waned over time. Shame on you!...hehe :sm_headba

I've got 1432 cds in my cd racks! just counted them. I think I have some sort of problem every time I go to the shops I have to buy at least 1. None of them are burnt copies I'm in a band and it ****es me of when people burn our dics.
