Default Herrod upgrades for AU's

Hey guys,

just chasing a little more info on some of the upgrades that Herrod did for AU's. Im looking into this for a mate who is considering purchasing an XR8 ute with the following Herrod goodies:

Unichip
330mm brake upgrade
suspension (not sure how much lower it is)
exhaust
headers
70mm Tickford intake

Just wondering if anybody can shed some light on how these mods affect the car i.e. what kind of gains can be expected etc. I know its difficult to tell without dynoing the actual car, but Im just after ballpark ideas as to what he can expect.
I know he is also thinking about taking the Unichip out, would this be wise? Ive driven a few Windsors but never one with a Unichip, and while the settings and tune vary from car to car, would it make that much difference? He is thinking maybe insurance and having it tuned for 98RON is not such a good idea given his age.

Any info appreciated!

They also did a 250kw package, and a 300kw package.

Not sure about anything else.

The Unichip (in the instances I've seen) has sharpened up the windsor engines nicely. Apparently r&d on the 8's wasn't crash hot so it def brings out some go.

Insurance wise the lowered suspension and if the car has had a cam change at all, will probably be your biggest obstacles to most general insurers.

Aust as galaxyxr8 mentions above it's all good.
My beloved XR8 had all the above,I wouldn't dream driving her without the Unichip, that would take from memory 22rwkw at the rear I got extra. Helps alot with fuel economy open road but local driving you tend to hammer it more because it's fun !

The power it is making with those mods will will really depend on wether it started life as a 185, 200, or 220kw AU XR8. Anything from maybe 160-180 at the wheels..(?)

Leave the Unichip in, it should be fine....much better than the factory tune at least.

I would love those brakes

I think it depends who it is being insured with. As far as I remember NRMA won't insure a vehicle with computer mods.

V8 Owners, I found a Tickford 70mm TB for sale. $450. PM me if you want details.

Also check out Full Noise's XR8. He had a lot of Herrod Modifications.

My insurance company know's about all my mod's, especially the Unichip and they don't have a problem with it, that's with the RACV.

I saw a Envi BA XR8 Ute at Auction in Canberra which had all the Herrod gear in it. Not sure what was done to it, but she was lowered, Herrod Brakes and some herrod interior. Big exhaust tips as well. Looked tough.
