Default Air Conditioning on AUII working intermittently

Hi all - jumped into my recently purchased 2001 AUII S and found the air conditioning blowing ambient temperature air, not the nice chilly cold stuff. Turned the air con switch on and off a few times, let it stay off for a while and viola it begins to blow nice cold refrigerated air, does this on and off for an hour or so and then works fine for the rest of the day (spent 5 hours in the car today driving around).

Question is - would this be symptomatic of the need for a regass or could it be something more significant?

Any advice appreciated.

Sound's like it's in need of a regas, mine was the same, it did the same thing, have a look under the hood with the air on and see if the compressor(front bit) is spinning???. but more likely it need's a regas or it could be overgassed, either way.

Looks like a re-gassing to kick it off - thanks the the advice - I am happy that all the fans are working, recirculate/fresh air setting still work and all vents are blowing air - so hopefully a good dose of refrigerant will kick it in the guts
