Default static electricity

hey all!!!

i was cleaning my room today and wiping away dust from around my tv and stuff and i felt a small shock when i touched my dvd player! is this normal or do the appliences that i have sournding the dvd player make it go static.

any suggestions..??

You probably had built up static from your TV screen, dont worry, it's normal.

As there is plastic used for everything these days and depending on the type of cloth you were using...there is every chance you built up static electricity.

However to dbl chk use a damp/moist cloth next time if you still get a small zap then you've got a problem with your equipment and should have it checked out for proper earthing etc.

Dont worry about it- I sell hi fi equipment for a living and am constantly getting shocked whilst cleaning it.....this will happen on some days more than others depending on humidity, temp, other atmospheric conditions, etc. If it isn't earthed properly, you'll know about it- test it by un plugging from the mains and see if it still holds a charge after a while.

yea, if the appliences arnt grounded, ie not plugged in, static electricity will cause damage to the internal components (as static electricity is thousands of volts). but because its plugged in most of the time, its fine.
