My wife had a similar problem, turn the key dead as a doornail.
She ran into the the house screaming the flaming battery was a dud (brand new) I went to the car sat in the drivers seat placed the auto in PARK instead of DRIVE and turned the key amazingly turned over with no problem ;) |

I had this problem on my EL, at first it was once in a blue moon and it would start after a few minutes, then it wouldn't start unless I was pushing up hard against park. I swapped the inhibitor switch and it was all fine.

also forgot to mention that when the key was on the start position, the smartlock/smartshield light on the cluster would flash on and off. does this mean its not the starter or is it the smartlock/smartshield? thanks
