Hi everyone. I have a stock mk2 1600 which started making really bad noises down near the crank. Although I haven't diagnosed the issue properly, I'd hazard a guess that I've managed to spin a bearing or something similar.
I'll be removing the engine shortly and replacing it with a low-km or reco'd unit from either city dismantlers (Adelaide) or somewhere that can offer a better price with something resembling a warranty. I've done countless work on lasers and other FWD cars but haven't touched an escort before. I have no issues pulling/rebuilding engines but just wondering if there are any things I need to look out for specifically with the escort. Additionally, what parts/seals I should consider replacing while the engine is out. Unfortunately its not my car and I have to keep the budget to a minimum. The car is not a cruiser, racer, etc only a dead standard car so it doesn't require any hot bits. Thanks in advance for the help Darius

the 1600 is fairly small - easy change over
just check the obvious gaskets leaks, on the front of the gearbox, exhaust manifold, check the condition of the clutch fork & bearing while the motor is out, they can tend to bend you can check the condition of the steering rack bushes etc while you at it (depending on how keen your getting) apart from that there isnt much in an escort engine bay - lol |

I always find it easier to remove the engine without the gearbox if you are lifting the motor out, I usually only leave the gearbox on if I am dropping the whole lot down on the crossmemeber
for the 10 or so bolts, unless you want to do something with the gearbox leave it in - no stuffing around with tailshafts, speedo cables, etc |

Thanks mate...are there any online store that stock escort gear for a decent price? I live in the country and getting parts is difficult/expensive, local parts shop thought EBC greenstuff was a type of coolant...
