I am planning on converting my dash to a BA XR dash... do i need to replace the steering column to a BA unit, or will a telescopic/tilt AU unit still be ok... as i am unsure if they are the same.

the Au handbrake adjuster is under the car, which is u-cable style setup, whereas the AU adjuster is at the handbrake lever itself. the BA cover is not removeable, whereas the AU one is for adustment. having said that the handbrake shoe setup is pretty much the same, which would mean you could convert the entire system to BA, or use the AU lever with BA cover, you just need to accomodate for the adjustment under the cover

lol ... u will def need a complete BA unit (inc cables all the way back to the shoes). i am not sure if ur floor pan will have the provisions for the hand brake lever assembly, i would assume so thou. would be silly to have diff floor pans for diff models

Hand brakes are different between AU and BA.
I can tell you the cable is different as I’ve got a BA diff in my AU. Differences are in where the cable attaches to the diff it's self. The brackets are in different locations, but it's nothing a large hose clamp can't fix As for the handle, JC looked into it so he knows the differences for sure, but it relates to the AU handle is bolted to the tunnel, and the BA is bolted to the floor ban. Or some difference like that. Either way, he decided against the conversion on his car. Cheers
