Default CAI Upgrade for an AU 1

Hi Guys,
Tried having a look through and doing a search but not having much luck on the technical side so need some specific advise from you AU experts.
I've bought my son a AU1 Classic. It's in really good nick and I wanted to do a couple of cheap basic bolt on mods to it for for better breathing. (He can pay for anything else after this, ha ha)
I'll be sorting the exhaust out but I'm confused about the CAI mods. I've seen where some guys have fitted the BA air box, intake pipe and XRT snorkle . Do they just bolt straight into the AU1?

Not quite. But with a little modification (purchase of a section of 3" pipe, with a 30 degree bend in it, and a 3" to 3.5" silicon joiner), you can use a BA XR8 Pod setup, and it fits quite nicely and does a fantastic job. Here's a pic of the setup in my old AU wagon:

a forum memeber fitted a ba box and lost power on back to back dyno runs, just throw a tickford snorkel on, and a k&n flat panel in will breath alot better. also changing the inlet on the lid from 50mm to the ef one which is 80mm...

more then one person on here lost power after changing to a 3" pipe.
I lost 3rwks from one run to the next (30 seconds apart) without changing anything.

Thanks guys. Can you still get the tickford snorkle from ford?
Will the ba/bf XR6T snorkle bolt straight into the AU and mate up to the AU air box?

XR6T Snorkel is exactly the same as the tickford snorkle, just without the wings
Tickford snorkels cannot be purchased from ford anymore, but they can be found on ebay every now and then (usually go for $100+), which is silly when the XR6T one is around $30.

Yes, the XR6T snorkle will bolt straight on. Will take a whole 30 seconds to do

Just get that plus a K&N Panel Filter and you will notice a little bit of a difference, mostly in throttle response. Plus a nice whirring noise

Would a F6 box and both intakes fit into an AU 6?

Old thread is old. But ebay always has widemouth snorkels for around $45-50.

To a Fairmont no, only an XR would be able to just squeeze in due to the headlight design.
