XL and XLE have twin round, although it may have been optional on XL. I had an XL with twin headlight grille and XL badge on it. I kept this grille for each of mine as it was perfect. As for the 6, there may be some issues with really early TC Cortinas that were all 4 cyl and still based on the Pommie version. Ford didnt just slap a 6 in the Pommie Cortina, they actually revised a lot of the car to suit the 6. The firewall along with numerous other things when they redesigned it for the 6. The firewall is thicker on the Aussie 6cyl Cortina which they did carry over to the Aussie 4 cyl too. So, once you get to the year the 6 was released, any shell from that year on has the firewall sitting back more, and slightly thicker to take the torque of a 6 even if its only a 4. They reinforced the front crossmember to accommodate the torque of the 6, I dont know if this is all like with the firewall, or only the 6 though. If the 6 cyl you use comes from a Falcon, sump, oil pick up, and fan spacer need to be changed to Cortina type (the fan spacer is shorter for Cortina). Cortina have a rear sump with dipstick and oil pickup to suit. 6 cyl radiator which sits forward into the cutout at the front to clear the fan. Apart from that, youll need the 6 cyl bonnet which has the hump to accommodate the engine and a flat filler cap. Unsure Brakes need to be changed AFAIK to 6 cyl (there were FoMoCo, Girlock and PBR calipers, I liked the Girlock but never drove on PBR, FoMoCo were woeful but could just be the ones I was using though). Diff needs changing. Brake master cyl is different for the 6, again, not sure if Ford carried it over for all Cortinas, or just the 6. Gearbox mounts in the floor of the car are different (4 - 6), but that may be the early ones I mentioned above. Ive owned three 6 cylinder Cortinas, and did one 4 - 6 cyl conversion with an early one, there were some issues like the gearbox mounts etc and I couldnt run the fan I had to run thermos. I just put the whole front end from the 6 under it, cut the gearbox mounts from the floor and welded in the 6 cyl mounts and swapped diffs and brake booster/master cyl complete. Price??? Who knows? They are prone to rust, being British.
Oh, and the stupid fuse box under the bonnet, wipers etc will drive you mad when the contacts start playing up because you dont realise it till its raining and you have to get out to get the wipers to work occasionally. Youd think the Brits with all that rain would have done something about that. |
