Brake shudder is common, you need to get your disks machined and posibbly some new pads

brake shudder, either machine the rotors, if theyre still thick enough or repace them, as far as leads, i find its easy enough just to remove the intake snorkle to give you room to get to the coil pack then just swap em, shouldnt have a drama

Get the front discs machined first, that should sort it out. It was the problem on my SR. $66 later and no shudders!

Cheers,

Easiest way to change the leads is to take the airbox & snorkel out of the vehicle and just do one at a time

The hardest part about it is cutting the cable ties if it's the first time they are being done.

Brakes - as everyone has already said, get the discs machined, and new pads too.

Leads - yes, you can go 10mm, but there's really no need. I had more issue with the $#130 10mm spiral wound Top Guns on my 6, then with the original motorcrafts. Am running Topguns now, again, but just the standard 8mm ones and car runs great.

Plugs - Try the denso plugs from Toyota, they are the same as the ones ford supply, but about $10 per plug cheaper (around $15 compared to $25). Standard Denso part number is VW16R-A13 and the Denso Iridium is IW16. The only reason Ford use iridiums instead of copper cores etc, is that they last longer (around 100,000km instead fo 30 to 40,000km), so you can use either of the plugs. Or you could go Bosch, champion, NGK, motorcraft etc.

You will need to get your discs machined, but most AU's do this to a certain point. Best bet is to get slotted rotars, which will just about completley eliminate brake shudder.

Good Luck

I had this when I first got my AU. Ford machined them for free as it was sold like that. There's a home business near my place that does each disc for about $80 I think.

$80 for machining?

I had a place on the south coast that did it for $15 each as long as I supplied the disc (they didn't have to remove it)...

Wow, $15! That sounds amazing. This place also does it "on car," so maybe that's why?

Normal off car machining should be around $20 each, plus GST, and $30 for slotteds (extra cost is for them to resharpen the bit after the slotteds blunt it).

$66 for front slotteds @ Brakes Plus, was the standard price though, he reckoned slotteds are a little more (now I know why!) but gave me the standard price.
