Default 50th Birthday Present

Ok well my father is turning 50 next month, and I am absolutely stuck on what to get him. Being a rather big milestone i would like to get him something thats kind of unique, i guess.
He is hard to buy for, as he has just about every piece of tooling equipment a bloke could ever want. And I don't want to get him something for his cars, afterall enough of them is spent on them throughout the year.

And he's done all that 'ride of a lifetime' stuff, he's been in a v8, nascar, helicopter, air balloon, etc...

So does anyone have any suggestions??

Cheers
Melz

Depends on how much you want to spend.
I know a bloke who just got a pet for his 50th and is absolutely in love with it. Sort of reassuring to come home and always have someone to be excited to see him. If he's got a dog, get him another kind of pet. I just bought my father a huge marine coral tank. Best thing about it is that he knows I'll be coming around more frequently to do maintenance on it.

Has he followed a particular sport team for any length of time?
For my dads 50th we bought him a limited edition Balmain 1966(I Think) jersey and had it framed.

For his 60th we bought him a bottle of port with the west tigers grand final photo on it and they put his name one the label. He loved both of these.

If I can find the website name for these I will let you know, they have all teams of all sports including motor sport. They look great behind his bar.

My wife bought me a classic carllectable 1:18 diecast XR ute to match the real one. You may think that a 50 year old wouldn't be bothered with something like that but I thought that she was very thoughtful. It sits on my desk at work.

Just an idea

Thats along the lines i'm aiming for now... but haven't found a VX SS.. (to remind him of the mistake he made buying that car) But instead, since he is such a huge drag racing fan like myself... i have found something very similiar

And he is getting a big surprise party as well as a day at the drags.

Thanks for all your suggestions, its been great!!!!

Hi Melz,

Both my parents turned 50 in the last couple of years, and we got them both the Same present, Its a rather larger Clock, and both have their Names and DOB on them, however the clock face was blank white paper apart form the Gold lettering of their names and DOB, then during the party we held everyone who attended the party actually got to sign the clock face (sort of like their own personal cards, similar to the 21st key) both my parents loved the idea and both clocks are on display in the house, Dads takes pride of place in the Bar room, and Mums is located in the Kitchen/Meals area. Many of the friends and family that attended their party have since purchased similar things. I will try to find out where we go them...and if possible get some pics ups in the next couple of days.

Cheers

Melz

For my uncle's 50th he was given a memory book...
It had a hard cover (wooden that was engraved with his name, date of birth etc..).. in it was a piece written from every member of family with photos that they thought best reminded them of him...
His friends also joined in and wrote little stories about him etc..

Sort of like a walk down memory lane...

We also organised a beautiful framed family name meaning thing..

Just a thought... whilst its good to give funny gifts, sometimes it is so much nicer to give a special gift ..
