Hi Guys,
I need another key for my SR Sedan, saw one on ebay for about $30 delivered to my door. Then of course I need to get it cut and programmed to my car. Does anyone know how much this process will cost? Can I get it done at a place other than Ford? I'm in Northwestern Melbourne. GK |

I don't think the keys are cut, just programmed as far as I'm aware.
Someone correct me, I'm new to AUs. Ian

They have to be programmed and cut, but I think you can program them yourself. You can program remotes so I'd imagine you could program the transponder too.

Can't help with getting the keys, but once you have another one, you MUST get both keys programmed at the same time. As part of the coding process, they delete all previous keys - ie they change the code.

GK P.S By the way, how's that vapourate thingy going on your car? Worth the money? I saw a caption under your avitar a while back saying "with the magic of vapourate!" LOL! |

GK - the vaporate is good on a trip, but does next to nothing around town. It probably saves me about 0.5 l per 100km - put it this way, since installing it, we haven't been over 15l/100km (used to get 15+ quite often), but still averaging low 14s (mostly city), against a best of 13.9 pre-vaporate (economy drive, mixed city/highway).

THe key's you can program yourself, just like the remotes - look in the manual. A normal key cutter should be able to cut the key, how ever if he says he can't , just keep looking for one that can.

you can program a key yourself but you must already have 2 keys!!
i only have one key and to buy a ford key and get them to code it in, they quoted be $400. and they said they needed the car for half a day.. i was told that all keys are the same, just programmed differently and that no one can cut them.

$400 you are seriously getting ripped, you are right in that yes you must have at least 2 keys before you can programme any extras yourself, otherwise take the second unprogrammed key to Ford after you get it cut at a LOCKSMITH and they can programme it for you this should cost no more than $50 (ford quote $45 here) ,you can also purchase a non genuine Keyblank from a Locksmith (most should stock them),blank including cutting should be about $70 to $80 ,if you supply the blank to a Locksmith you are looking around $30, hope this all helps...........!

I lost a set on my old AU and it cost me about $150 for a Geniune new ford Key and for it to be programed to the car, it takes about 10 minutes...
Go to your ford dealer, they will cut it on the spot and if their WSD machine is free put it on the computer and have them trained. The remotes are only about $70 i think.

A key from Ford will set you back about $95 including cutting.
If you have a blank key, I'd normally charge $20 to cut it. To code it in most dealers will charge $100-$150. D:

I was quoted $140 by Mr Minit to cut & code a key for my AU3 fairmont & another $80 for a replacement remote. Guy there reckons 'they're the only ones outside of ford' who do the remotes??
