'Allo All,
Ever had one of those annoying noises you get in your car from time to time? I've got a really annoying tinny light metal rattle noise that occassionally occurs at start-up, after I turn it off after it happens I can shut the drivers door and hear it rattle but can't work where the damn thing is, could it be a loose exhaust clamp or something? After it is warmed up it tends not to do it again which makes me ya feel like a real idiot when you ask someone to look at it.... 2000 Series 1 AU Classic Any thoughts on it guys? : : damn thing is driving me nuts... sounds like it could be coming from that area sounds like a clamp not tight enough or something just can't get the damn noise to go long enough.

I know the sound you mean. I don't think it's a loose clamp or anything. I get it on cold startups and when its warm it doesn't have the noise. I actually think its the teeth in the starter motor or something in the starter motor mechanism that connects to the fly wheel.
Is your car a manual or auto?

my rattle upon start up is the fan belt / fan of all things. It clangs upon start up only, not when already started.

I had a chat to the local Ford dealers that seem to know what they're talking about but charge a crapload of money.
They seem to think it could be the bolts on the Torque Converter being loose and when the heat is in them they tighten up and don't rattle which makes sense to me only problem now is they want $150.00 to tighten some bolts.... I am being ripped for this price or is it a bugger of a job to do??? Cheers Chris |
