Default Another intake thread

I have searched around but have found a few different answers to my questions, so I thought I'd put them here. They are in relation to my XR8 220.

On the intake pipe, is the exact position of the sensor (is it an O2 sensor) that plugs in important, or is close enough good enough?

Is the bend 60 degrees? I'm looking to get a silicone hose to do the bend.

What is the largest pod filter that will fit in the standard box? I know power gain will be negligible, but I want it for the induction noise. I have already opened up the front of the airbox for extra airflow.

Anything else I should be aware of?

Opened up airbox with a panel filter will sound the same as pod filter mate

This sender you speak of is it the MAF ?

I'll do the intake pipe first and see how it goes. I'd probably go with a K&N or equivalent either way

Nah, not the MAF. It is the small sensor that is around closer to the throttle body.

I can't really see it on that pic, but it would be around the location that I have circled, on the side closest to the firewall.

Correct. Placement is not that important but I personally would keep it reasonably close to where it is now.

Nice bit of kit but I can't see $265 in that. I'd love one of these intake pipes but not for that much.

That is a disgrace of a design and finish for that matter. And they actually charge you money for that......? Why would you make a curved intake pipe from straight sections. Looks very cheap. When an exhaust shop can make a 60deg radius mandrel bent pipe for stuff all. Then you can polish it up or paint it for a more stealth look. Just my 2c. Don't mean to offend.

Youve got a point Craig, I was just talking about the bling .

Is it definitely a 60degree bend? If so I reckon I might hit up the local exhaust belter and see what he can do.

Cheers for that, I knew there was a sensor there, just wasn't sure what it was. I was thinking of doing it in silicone to avoid the heat soak issue, not that I'm chasing mega power, but why make things potentially worse?

Still keen to know if it is a 60 degree bend, and what the biggest pod that will fit is.

I reckon you'll be wasting your time fitting a pod into the standard box. From memory I put a 3 inch one into a mate's airbox and it did require modifying the lid to make it shut. Unless the sound is a major thing for you I wouldnt bother, and if sound is a motivating factor, consider either making or buying a better intake system like the G&D one or the Acron one that a lot of people on here have and are quite happy with.

If you havent done it already, delete the resonator (the round squiggly thing that comes off the intake pipe) and that will make a fair bit of difference to how it sounds. I got rid of mine for $2 - got a PVC end cap from Bunnings, painted it black and used that to plug the hole.
