Hello all, I have recently just joined this forum as I have just purchased a Silver AU series 3 XR8. All in all I am fairly content with the car, but wanted to add, what I thought would be quiet simple...
After searching the forum High and low, seems it may not be as simple as I thought. I just want to be able to have a delay off on the headlights, similar to some holdens and the Ghias I think. I am not interested in Auto Sensor Headlights I just want to have the headlights go off 30 to 60 Seconds after the door is open. I thought it would just be a matter of putting the AU Fairmont Ghia Headlight switch in, in place of the standard one on the XR8? Anyone know how hard or easy this is to do please?? Thanks..Tony. : |

Well my fairmont has that option.
What dash does a S3 XR8 have? Is it base spec? An auto elec might be able to wire up some kind of delay, or, find the bits you need from a fairmont and add them in. You might be able to find a wiring diagram on this site, I wouldn't think the setup in the fairmonts is overly complicated. It is quite a handy feature.

Although the only downside is having people continually tell me that I have left my lights on, by the time I explain they switch themselves off..LOL
Atleast people are still nice.

Yeah I'm the same, lights are on when I am driving regardless of the time.
Seriously why this isn't a legal requirement I will never know. Back to the OP I believe it is just a matter of changing the switch to a Ghia one. |

Well, further searching leads me to believe it is a bit more involved than just changing the switch, so I decided to do a search for a headlight timer delay? Thought this would be a very simple 3rd party device that any electronics or auto shop would keep.. I cant believe I am the only person around that wants this feature but his car didnt have it?? Closest I found was in ebay USA. A kit that also turns the headlights on automatically which is over complicating things for me.. Anyone ever seen a third party kit that would give me an extra 30 sec before the headlights go off. I know a little electronics but no where near enough..

If it cant be done using ford parts, have you tried Jaycar? They often have little things like that..

i always thought it was controlled by the bem...
the high series bem's and the xr's are different so it wont work by just changing the switch..

It won't work by changing the switch - the wiring loom is different and as stated it is also controlled by the BEM and I don't think the low series BEM has the function.
Anyhow the easiest way for you to achieve your result is by using a turbo timer. Readily available and the delay can be used to control any electrical device and usually the delay period is adjustable. |

I dont want it for driving during the day... Anyway, Jaycar Dick Smith, Autobarn, Supercheap Auto, none have anything like it. So it looks like the one on Ebay in the USA is the only way to do it cheaply and quickly.

id imagine if you put a fairmont BEM in, reprogrammed that to your keys then replace it with a ghia switch it should work???
If thats the case then Ive got a Fairmont BEM if your still interested, then just find yourself a switch and get your car to ford for a $35 reset.
