radiator for escort engine swap??

ive got a pinto motor (2000cc) almost ready to go in my mk2 escort

the escort came with the 1600. what radiator do i use?

do i use the 1600's one? probably too small.

will a cortinas radiator fit?

Try get your hands on a 2.0L escort radiator. They are distinguishable from the 1600 radiator by mounting bracket location. They are very similar however they sit furthur toward the front of the vehicle. You will have to cut into some of the shroud out the front in order for it to fit.

A Cortina radiator is essentially the same as a 1600 Escort. 2lt Escort is different to them all in mounting position.

Depends, I have a mate running a 2lt (in 2lt body shell) with a std 1600 Escort/2lt Cortina radiator it fits with std engine fan but Im almost certain if you have a 1600 body shell that you'll need to modify the metal around radiator. IMO a 2lt Escort which is same as RS2000 would be best option, but will require most meat cut out.

If you want to fit a 1600 Escort/2lt Cortina one I have 2 on ebay. As far as cooling efficiency goes, I don't think theres much differences between a 1600 radiator and a 2lt version other than the offset straps. I've never measured how much each takes in litres, but they visually look similar, im not same in size.

something awesome just happened, my neighbour is some old rich guy and he was talking 2 my dad and he mentioned my escort and then my neigherbour (graham) said he has a few cortina parts from his car, (he is an ex mechanic, now a farmer) so i got a cortina radiator for $50! its definately bigger than the 1600s one, but it will fit.

htere is one thing i need from you rhys, would you happen to haev a 2.0 starter motor? and/or an oil spray bar? thanks

Why do you need to change the radiator? Just ditch the engine driven fan and run a thermo fan. It was good enough for the Mk 1 RS2000s and if the cooling system is in good order, it shouldn't overheat. You'll gain a few horsepower in the process as well.
