Default Mesh

Last Friday night, my mates bodgey Holden Commodore decided to break down even before we managed to leave Lara to see Marduk in Melbourne. So after getting a jump start (thanks Felicity) we went back and got my car, and headed in.

I had to park in one of those little parking lots on Little Collins, with tight windy ramps - and up to the top. On the way back out, I managed to just touch the ramp wall on the passenger corner, trying to avoid hitting anything on the drivers side (bloody made-for-minis parking lots...) and took a nice strip of black paint off.

So, when I go to get this fixed up, I thought I might do what I had intended to do last time I got the front bar resprayed - mesh!

I want to use the same mesh (stainless?) that's in the Rebel rear bar, anyone got any idea where this can be sourced?

I know that NewGel in canberra can get it - it's not cheap though. And I'm sure if they can get it, then most panel/body/spoiler shops should be able to.

Bad luck on the damage, BTW. I'll take the pursuit lip if it's broken, LOL.

Not broken, just shaved the paint down to the primer. Thanks for the tip, I'll ask NewGel if any local places can't source it.

I've seen mesh advertised at Autobarn a few times.

I have too but it's not been the same stuff used by those who did the Rebel kits.

You could try a place called Metal Mesh Pty. Ltd (www.metalmesh.com.au).
Have offices in Melbourne,Sydney,Perth,Sth Aust & Brisbane. They have mesh (various sizes) and perforated sheets in stainless, brass & metal.Got some off them to make grills for my AU XR8. I think that you can get as much as you want without buying a full sheet. They may have what you are looking for!!

That metal mesh looks fairly close, particularly the bolting cloth - thanks lotus. Do remember what type you got for yourself?

That's what I used.I got the finer mesh as the gap between the upper grill area is small and used the same in the lower area just to make it look all the same. Depending what you are going to use it for, the finer for XR and the larger size for fairmont grill ect.
Here is a pic of the mesh on my XR

Not a very good shot but if you want a better one ,let me know.

The smaller size is 3.9 aperture with 1.2mm wire.
The larger size is 4.7 aperture with 1.6mm wire.
They could have more sizes but these are the two I know about.

That mesh looks way too small and chicken wire-ish, no offense. It just looks cheap and unsuited. It may be the photo though as you said.

Being stainless steel it reflects light very well, whether from sunlight or a camera flash. The problem with the XR front is that you only have 35mm between the upper bars and 85mm in the lower area.
Have seen the larger mesh in a BA XR grill and looks great, but they have a bigger area to play with than the AU.

I'm going to put some of the larger mesh in a EB with a SSV front bar soon and might get enough to put in the AU and see how it looks.
