Default Reverse lights Part II

hi guys
well, my Sundowner got over the pits first time, so now its legal in WA - the licensing guys kept a set of my old 70's style plates from a de-registered car of mine, so the car looks super original - much better than new plates on a 79 Sundowner!

Now, the point of this thread ... my problem is the opposite of Matt's - my reverse lights won't go off! Luckily it happened after I left the licensing centre. I took the lead off the switch at the gearbox end and they still stayed on. The only thing I can think of is that I might have damaged the wiring when I screwed on the rear licence plate ... a weekend job, but any advice greatly appreciated!

cheers fjw

Default cured!

yep, as predicted, the l-o-n-g self tappers which were already on the car when i bought it, were too long - put in shorter self tappers and problem solved - the long ones must have earthed it and caused the lights to stay on. just need to wrap the wiring up! phew ... wish it was all that easy!

the switch is high up on the rear of the gearbox on the driver's side. its a press stud fit with a rubber dust boot. Cable then seems to disappear up alongside the tailshaft. The wiring behind the rear licence plate is up under the rear beaver panel ... good luck to you both!! and if it makes you feel any better, I'm still trying to figure out why my spotties only come on when the interior light is on.
