G'day everyone, well as you can see from the heading that I have just got my car back after nearly 12 months, my son has borrowed it. anyway I need to adjust the hand brake, really bad, when you pull it on it goes all the way up, can anyone please help me in advising on how to adjust it? I have adjusted the screw/bolt inside the car to max. Is there any other way of adjusting it or am I up for a new cable.

Hi,
Try here http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...2&postcount=68 The pics give you a close up of the worm screw that needs adjusting! You do this with a screwdriver. You don't need to take the disc off, as you can get to the screw by removing the black inspection/adjustment grommet. If your handbrake isn't squeaking, then I suggest you leave the disc on and adjust through the hole. Taking the disc off can lead to the annoying AU squeaks! Adjust through the hole if you can. and here! http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...5&postcount=54 This also has some pics which may help out. I have also heard that a good way of adjusting the handbrake is to jack up the rear wheels, then, with the wheels off the car, set the handbrake lever nut at 3/4 adjustmentment, then adjust the worm screw a little. Then, gently put the car in drive and see at what point the handbrake is working effectively. You'll see and hear the handbrake drum dragging. Adjust until it stops ok and doesn't squeak. Bear in mind though, that I haven't done it this way, but this is supposed to eliminate the chance of the squeals. I hope this helps? All the best with it; glad you got your car back! LOL! GK

Is this it here GK?
 I was looking for an actual screw head connected to a worm drive :P But yeah, after i saw that, i tried to adjust it, and it would only turn 1/8th of a turn in either direction?!?

Thanks mate. As i said, i found it, but after it didnt move, i didnt want to force it incase my car spontaneously combusted the next time i touched the brakes :P Cheers, Michael

With this handbrake adjustment, is it on both rear wheels? Or just one of them?

thanks for the help GK it worked like a beauty, I did have a few probs though as the passenger side was screwed right down and was really tight had to put some wd40 onto it and then some pliers to get it moving.
