I'm thinking about a few little touches for my interior, and Im hoping that you guys will be able to help out.
First one is, is it possible to "emboss" leather? I am looking at having an image embossed into the headrests of the seats, and am just curious as to how it is, or whether it even can be done. Ive had people suggest embroidery and even airbrushing, but I want a subtle yet classy look, and I dont think airbrushing would be cost effective, or stand up to regular use for very long. I don't really want to have to get the headrests recovered, which rules out embroidery because it would have to be done on a new, flat sheet of leather. So, is it possible, and if so, any recommendations on who might be able to help? Theyre easy enough to post. Next thing - I am toying with the idea of adding a fuel filler flap release button to the ute, similar to what the sedans have. I have a feeling someone else may have done this but cant think who it was? Basically I want to do it so the dash has the factory style button you push to open the filler cap. So, can it be done to a ute, and if so, any idea how? And finally, does anybody know of a specialist coatings company (Modicoat or similar) who can accurately match the "raindrops" finish of T-Series interior trim? Im looking around but if somebody knows of a company who can do it, that'll save me a bit of time. Thanks guys.

Hey Austin,
Stitching the Tickford logo onto your headrest shouldn't be a problem as they are zipped on and can be taken off and stiched. Popular interior places have the logo on file, mine are getting done but on the actual seats. The remote fuel flap switch is possible, Adam (Falkeen) has done this plus he also filled the indent on the panel. Modicoat would be your best bet for the the shifter surround. Cheers Mick

There is one problem with "unzipping" the leather - I dont think mine is standard Ford leather. It looks different, feels different, is not perforated, and its definitely not zipped on, its stitched on. That in itself isnt a problem though because as long as it can be done to the leather thats on there, I can just remove the headrest and send it to whoever can do it.

I am having CHIEF embrodded into the headrests in about 3 weeks tims. Just tack the headrest out and give the entire headrest if it is easier.

Cool idea. I was thinking of getting the same thing done. I really like the old seats from your ute Austin, so I would like to do something similar for my car. I want to get the tickford logo put into the seats. As for the head rests, i think if i was gonna get anything stitched into it, I would go with "Rest Head Here" :hihi:

I think the ute is gonna need a new battery this week so I had to put this stuff on hold, still very keen to do it though. Ive looked into getting the raindrops finish replicated and am waiting to hear back on that one, but hopefully it should be possible - I only want one bit done anyway.
I'm also toying with the idea of getting a new finish put onto the centre console around the CD player etc. Im not sure if I'll do it yet cos it might look overdone, but if i do go with it i think it'll look pretty good. With the seats, I am gonna go ahead and get the wings done on either the backrest, or the headrest - i havent decided yet, and it also depends on how easy it is to get done, as Ill probably need to send my seats away. I have a pretty good idea of how I want it to look, and while it might not be original or bold, I think it'll come up a treat. I also bought a fire extinguisher, and Im going to get it airbrushed and have it somewhere in the cabin not too intrusive.

Mind if I ask, what is the 'raindrops' finish? I'm looking at getting my shifter surround and other bits in my fairmont done by modicoat to match the T series stuff, I thought it was just carbon fibre? Got any pics? Cheers mate.

if the fire department see a gas type container (fire extinguisher fits that catagory).. and they dont know whats in it.. they arnt allowed to approach the vehicle till they DO know what it is and you yelling the answer doesnt answer their question as you could be trying to blow them up etc..... aka could be N2o etc
so i wouldnt be airbrushing a fire extinguisher if i was you

Re the extinguisher airbrushing, Ive seen it done where the label is still on the extinguisher, so thats what I plan to do. That way its still possible to work out what it is, but it also looks a bit better (IMHO).
