Guys need some advice. I have a MK2 RS2000 4 door which currently has hotwire rims 7" . These are ok but due to restrictons in the boot it doesn't fit in the standard wheel well. I have moved the battery in the boot which restricts room. I was looking at some narrower rims and reasonable performance tyres so i can anchor things down as i am going to do some competition in it. Any ideas..was thinking minilites but as a rookie suggestions would be great. Oh running tarmac events and need to be road legal

Is the spare wheel the 7" hotwire that is causing the problems on the wheel well??

Also, what size tyres are you running? I used to run 215's on the front and 235's on the rear on 7 inch rims?

What sort of budget? I'd go for 15" or 16" rims.

You wont get any performance rim/tyre in the std Escort wheel well....It is just too small. If you are serious about running a tarmac event you need to run an alloy fuel cell behind the back seat (over the back wheels) and have your spare on a post in the centre of the boot. Any weight difference to either side of a rear wheel drive Escort will send the ИИИИ out on the first bend. Take a look at any serious rally/race Escort and they all have the same set up. Battery on the left, fuel pumps on the right, tyre in the centre and tank over the back axle.

I agree with whooligan. If you are just going out for a drive take a standard spare (equivalent to a space saver in modern cars), if you are in an event and want a matching spare then boot space is not a concern.
