Have heard of a leyland alloy V8 that just about bolted in. But the local rego authorities refused to register it.
Might be best if you consulted an engineer and your local rego guys to see what they would allow.

I have seen a green & a red MK11 Escorts with 351 Cleveland mtrs in at the summer nats. The green one had a supercharger fitted as well.
Injection Perfection had a Escort MK1 with a 302V8 windsor fitted. Plus at a all Ford day in Vic there was a white MK11 with a cleveland with vic reg.But bare in mind some of these cars could still be reg as 4 cyl, |

I remember there was a red and black Mk II Escort fitted with a 351 which used to cruise the streets of Melbourne in the early 1990s. Used to look stock except for the chrome 12 slotters. But when it drove by it was clear that the car was anything but stock as it made a distinctive V8 sound.

I've seen a green esky with rego plates DMT351. Is that's Marks car ?
The old story that I heard used to go round(prob a lie anyway) was that a 351 in an esky wasn't ever meant to be possible with rego but the person with the car knew an engineer or something and got it ok'd. As part of an act of defiance the plates DMT351 (department motor transport) where purchased.

It is Marks car yes, and the story, well after he built the first one, they said never again, you cant do it. The plates came about after he built the second one, and they could not find a reasonable excuse not to register it due to being so good, and technically roadworthy.
Thats how I remember reading it all those years back. |

Mark at MD Conversions at Blacktown 02 96717508 The question at the start of the thread was would a 351c or w fit in a mk2 escorts bay without any major mods.

yeh, but i dont mind major mods. plus im a steel fabricator and so is my dad. and i will be starting from a stripped body so why not. still deciding on doing a mk2 esky with a v8 or a fj 20et or a cortina with v8.

Cortina's with a v8 are a lot more common than an escort with a v8!

i think the major hurdle if fitting to a MK2 escort
will be the ADRs it will have ADR27a being a 79 onwards model which means the engine fitted will have to comply to all emission controls of that car and its date of manufacture also there is the new modification rule that came into play some months ago regrading firewall modification the rule says along the lines of ... no firewall modification can now be allowed... ! this ultimatley causes many problems for those wishing to fit V8s to smaller cars as the rule will make it none passable in a VASS situation it would be first a good idea for you to check with a VASS engineer in your state for advise first all this only applys if the car is going to be street registered |
