Default Focus or Fiesta With 30K Budget?

I'm in the market for a new car and have always been a Ford fan. I now live back in Oz but have been working overseas in the UK where I've been driving around my mates Fiesta. His was one of the latest models as he had it on a finance deal and it was lovely to drive. I drove a Focus when I was in Oz previously which was quite a bit older at the time but it did the job nicely. I'm looking at getting one or the other of theses Fords now I'm settled back home in Perth. I've got just edging 30k to spend, maybe a little more if I refinance a little. I'm not entirely sure what that will get me year wise and I'm presuming the Focus models are probably coming up more expensive. I was hoping I'd get a good suggestion here on what I can grab for that kind of budget as I've been out the game for a while. I'm most bothered about economy I suppose and of course a smooth driving experience. From what I can gather with the bit of research I've done, I may be able to stretch to a new Fiesta but would prob have to get a slightly older Focus with the budget I have. Any advice or personal testimony would be good to help me decide. Thanks in advance, Joe.

With $30K you'll get into either brand new.
Top of the line Fiesta Sport's are $20-22K or there abouts (depends how hard you look).
A Focus Sport could be had for under $30K for sure.

What about something like this, http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-3571878/?Cr=6
Leaves you a good few $$$ over for a few mods as well. These would have to be the best Focus they ever made IMO

Food for thought ??

New car, or "new yet used" ?
You didn't state if you require 2 or 4 door......
Focus or RS
The Fiesta is great, but the focus reminds me more of a Falcon, solider by comparison than the Fiesta.
You could always stick an ST engine in a fiesta
An LV XR5 with mods already done will cost less than $20k
Or look to spend a little over your budget on an LV RS

-can of worms-

Need some more info mate.
Are you on your own or have kids to cater for?
Do you rate handling or ride quality?
Manual or auto?
How many Kay's per week?
City or country driving?
So many combinations.
I see you're in Perth so beware the '09 '10 Fiestas and their awful air con if you go down the second hand path.
I personally would spend a couple of weekends hitting the car yards and test driving both on the roads you expect to spend most time on.
Both are excellent vehicles so it will come down to small personal preferences.
Good luck.

not being biased... but... if you can live with a manual and a reasonably harsh but great handling ride, the Fiesta ST you can get a 2nd hand one that is a year old and less than 10,000km for less than $25k drive away

save about 5 grand to have about 35 grand and buy yourself a new focus st 2015-16 plated one, look magnificent those cars and for the price you get a fair bit of car.

$30k to spend? There's no competition. The Fiesta ST is the best car under $30,000. It's also a better car than its bigger brother the Focus ST.
Some won't be happy with that and the stats on paper won't prove it but drive them both and you'll see the baby ST is the king of fun.

Thanks everyone for the replies, think I'm edging towards the Fiesta ST but going to arrange a test drive first to see how it feels. Seeing more and more positive reviews on the Fiesta that's edging me in that direction.

You won't be unhappy with the choice, love my fiesta ST every time I drive it.
