hey fellas, ive decided to flush the coolant out today, ive taken off the drain plug from the radiator and all the coolant is out of that, the gregorys manual says to disconnect the heater hose and put the garden hose down that and flush it out, im having trouble disconnecting the quick release coupling, anyone got any advice?
it pulls down like the garden hose ones right? cheers for any help |

I'm not sure the correct way to do it, but I replaced my thermostat at the same time, so whilst it was out, I just shoved the hose in through the bottom housing and did it that way.

The way i done it, was drain all the coolant out the radiator, fill with tap water and add a little radiator flush, or washing soda diluted in hot water which i hear works wonders, in the coolant bottle, run the car for 20 minutes with the aircon on full blast, then wait for coolant to cool down, or be very careful and drain again, do this twice maybe 3 times if you want to make sure all the crud is out, then fill with coolant and distilled water, run the car for about 10 minutes with the cap on loosely to let the air bleed, then tighten up and you ready to go.

sounds a lot easier than removing the heater hose lol
i'll give the washing soda a go, this would remove all the crud in the header tank too yeah? |

You'll find washing soda in the cleaning aisle of your supermarket. It's in a smallish clear plastic bag in either a crystal or powder form. The brand name is Lectric Soda. It's generally around the pre-wash, ironing aid area. Most supermarkets have it, it's just usually well hidden. EDIT:: Maybe even try a pool store as they usually stock sodium carbonate which is what washing soda is. and dont confuse it with baking soda, which is sodium bicarbonate if all else fails, buy some of ebay or just buy radiator flush from any car stores, although i hear they dont work too good. I've cleaned the system once (twice if you include the new radiator etc) and clean the header tank every month. It still looks like new - no discolouration at all |
