I got pulled over for speeding a few months back. Was doing 61 in a 50 zone, on a back street riding to work one morning.
Copper let me off with a warning though. That was weird..I'd never really thought of it.

i realise the responsibility is up to the rider, but its always amused me that you can get done for speeding on a bike, but its not mandatory to have a speedo fitted to your bike.
if i get pulled over, i'll put my garmin in my pocket and claim ingnorance |

haha nice one.
Any of you guys do the Gran Fondo on the weekend? I managed to complete the 110km course, 1800m of climbing in a very slow 21.3km average. Took quite a long time for me and the course was harder than I had expected. But the views were amazing. Being able to ride the GOR with zero traffic is a dream come true.

I think I got that Strave Gran Fondo award for my trek from Varese into Switzerland around Lake Lugano and Lake Como the other week.

Yep this guy has serious skill. Love his videos.
Weather is warming up guys. If you have the time, you guys should post up your pics during your rides.

Sure..
Me on a ride on the long weekend Great day for a ride by SgtBourne, on Flickr Last night's ride on the M7 track. Really well lit, which is nice. Night ride on the M7. Washes away a crappy day at work by SgtBourne, on Flickr A track bike that a mate has lent me. I'll get a front brake for it, then hopefully use it a bit, to learn how to get a better pedal, more power, and mainly just something different to have fun on. First actual ride of the Fuji was a success! No stacks or issues, thank god.. by SgtBourne, on Flickr

What is better? To increase the distance with each ride or to keep the distance the same and increase the average speed?

I think a bit of both, Syndrome. You need to increase strength in the legs to be able to increase your average speed, and you can do that by increasing your distance to increase endurance, and working to increase your average speed to build strength.
A friend of mine has been pestering me to go for a ride with him, but he has a mountain bike, and I have a road bike. He has a fear of being knocked off the road he's unwilling to overcome. So a few weeks ago, I thought I'd buy a cheapy mountain bike off Ebay to see what it was all about. There is a State Forest only 2-3 kms up the road from my place, with heaps of maintained MTB trails. I ended up spending $150 on a clapped out Diamondback 29" with el-cheapo gearset. At least it has disc brakes! I replaced the crank bearings with a cartridge type, cleaned and oiled the moving bits and fitted Shimano MTB pedals. I've had a few forays into the bush now, and, Geez, it's hard work! I'm not a gun road cyclist by any means, but I wasn't prepared to be gasping for breath after five minutes! The lack of traction at times, and riding over logs and rocks is something to get used to. And there are no flats to rest on - only climbs and descents. Anyway, I figure if I can use the hills in the bush trails to build my leg strength and lung capacity, it'll help me with my road cycling (getting up hills and being able to maintain higher gears for longer). I'll also see if I can use my cheap as chips mountain bike to keep up with my mate on his very expensive machine. Here's a pic of the clunker, with the smooth, finely tuned machine... I'll keep going with it... its starting to be fun... once I get my breath!

2 years on and i'm only just trying to pick the pace up on my rides. i find it easier to do this once you have built up a reasonable base level of fitness. others who have been riding much longer may offer different advice. Quote:

I have a mountain bike and mix it up with a few laps around the suburbs on public roads or on other days a lap around Lysterfield lake on mountain bike tracks. The later kills me more than riding on road.

Bought a new (to me) bike today, it'll replace my Specialized Hardrock 29er as my everything bike.
2009 Giant Anthem X1, so much XC goodness. It's on its way down from the ACT, hopefully here in time for a weekend bash.

I take back what I said about not getting attacked by Magpies. On the last few rides I have copped it!! One of which was absolutely murderous! Hacked at my ear for a bit, then felt it's claws on my back. Insane.
Had my first crack at the velodrome, was absolutely unreal. Has me wanting to sign up for some racing in the summer season.
