Just throwing around the idea that maybe some connections in the rear may have been incorrectly made. E.G. some sort of power supply from the ABS module going into the lighting circuit via the earth wiring.

no wiring has been changed, it ran fine when i delivered it, it doesn't now i've got it back.
so i can't see that being an issue. all that was unpluged was the trailer hook up and reverlight, no changes made to either.

I know you have checked for blown fuses, but have you checked for any missing fuses? Some circuits are protected by more than 1 fuse but it isn't listed in the owners manual.

the rear bar was repaired due to someone hitting me at a carpark, front bar repaired due to roo damage...both resprayed (done at my cost).

Tub liner removed and rust sandblasted, etch primed and resprayed black (black because it is a thicker paint then lighter colours so should give more protection to the frame). then reassembled. ( re 5year panel and chasi rust warranty approved by ford.)

p.s. how would i find the extra fuse...also pulling one fuse from a circuit should disconnect current to the whole circuit should it not?

Just had another read of your posts, was the towbar removed when the repair work was carried out? The wiring may have been squashed somwhere & it can't be seen.

tow bar was removed, but the wiring is above the gooseneck, and not near to anythingit can squash against. Also undoing the trailerwiring plug would fix that problem if it were it and it didn't.

Not if the vehicles wiring loom is squashed. There is a brace which is fitted before the towbar, you cant see it unless the towbar is removed. The wiring harness for the trailer plug wiring needs to be moved out of the way to fit this brace. You would need to drop the spare & get right under for a decent look.

hmm...ok we'll i'll be taking it back to the panel shop in that case. I've done all the reasonable things (ie fuses and disconecting the trailer wiring) and that is enough, IMO, the fault is oviously not caused by any aftermarket wiring, the ute worked beautifully before it went to the shop and i have it back and it now doesnt work fine. So obviously that is the common denominator (the exact details of what was exactly done, blow by blow is unknown).
so the next step will be monday morning, at the panel shop.

p.s. i'm not sure if the whole tow bar assembally was removed, but i assume the hitch definatley was.

Without being able to get my hands on the car this is all I can thik of this time of the night, the only other thing I can suggest is to get under the tub & disconnect parts of the loom until the fault disappears, otherwise good luck when you take it back, I hope you don't get stuffed around.

mate i wouldn't even know where to start, the ute is still under warranty, so i think it's best i leave it to the professionals.

That what AUXRVIII mentioned about squashed wires , and with you having no blown fuses , but when tapping the brakes pedal sometimes they do go off / no dash lights etc etc / it does sound alot like something is shorting out , and i recon AUXRIII is on the right track.

If they have had the rear end off your ute apart, then no doubt more than likely they have messed with the loom for the trailer & rear tail-lights/brakes.

I just hope for your sake / whoever sandblasted the tray / and depending what abrasive they used to sandblast it / that they removed the tray from the ute before sandblasting it ! / or if it wasn't removed then hope they disconnected the battery before sandblasting it ... due to alot of sandblasting materials can build up a huge amount of static on the surface being sandblasted , and short stuff out ! / the plastic beads and the metal bead abrasive chips are bad for static , the sand/glass bead chips don't seem to cause no where near as much static.

Anyway , if its only happened since getting it back , then take it back , it's not your problem to fix really ! .. cheers . gl

Sounds like most of the guys here are on the money. I would say that your HARNESS has been damaged. Not uncommon for wires to be crushed when the Tray is removed and replaced. The dealer should be able to tell? Most dealers have an Auto Electrician and they should be able to check continuity. You should take it back and tell them that this is a dangerous fault? Your vehicle is technically unroadworthy.

You need to take it back Orbit. It would be nice for you I know, to find this trouble but, it is better to put it back to the people who MUST fix it. Take your problem to the Dealer Principal if necessary.
