All this techo stuff is not my thing, but I appreciate the effort gone into making your cars what you want them to be.

Not if you install in the correct, legal, position. ie It should not be installed forward of the driver, but should be installed by basically replacing your interior light, so that only rear seat passengers can see it.

LOL, too true! but what good is that to the driver!
I'm planning on hooking a Sat/Nav system up to mine so putting in the back wouldve spoiled those plans if it couldnt be used while driving.

Ive heard a rumor that It's legal to be visible by the driver as long as its only wired to power up when your car's handbrake is on - know if theres any truth in this???

that is correct robbo yobbo

all tv screens for cars have an extra cable that goes to ground that you wire thru ur handbrake
so when the handbrake is off it does not let the screen turn on

Muahahaha...it has begun!! The poxy rear speakers are in the mail back to ford engineering!!! I have decided to keep the sony mp3players as it is running .Clarions have replaced the old rears and the cars volume before distortion is already greatly improved!! My next move is to pick up my 2 clarion 12 inch sub woofers in an enclosure.Luckily I have found my old 500 watt amp to run these. The sub woofer setup handles 800 watts of power so I think a bigger amp may be required. But well see.

My kenwood amplifier may be used to run the front door speakers instead of running directly off the deck.
4 new tweeters are also on their way!!

By the time this project is finished I will get a db metre to check it all properly.

The back of the wagon is messy.I am going to steam clean it and go the full hog with the back.Hopefully I will reveal all my back boot plans at the all ford day in July.

I have only done a few little things with the ute ... but would like to do more though.
I am just thinking on waht to do next.

So far I have upgraded the standard stereo just a little bit. I want to use one of the more permanent mounts for my GPS and used the sandbag mount for the other car when i need to move it over there .... I just need to run new wiring in the ute so it is hooked up to the ignition and have a seperate speaker under the dash for it as well .... and hide all the other cabling (only having a short section from the bottom of the windscreen to the GPS that shows).

I an gett sick of the GPS sliding all over the slipery dash on the roads up here ... twisty/bumpy/high speed/rough roads.

Although my electrical knowledge and know-how is lacking.

Also would like to secure the ute a little better too.

Muahahah * 2!!!!!

I ended up replacing the back speakers in the wagon with the best from clarion!! Also I bout a 600 watt subwoofer and installed it along with my beloved kenwood amp.I have been sitting in the car for 3 hours and can hardly stand from having the radio up so high. Now I turn it full boar and it doesnt distort but the AU'S panels just rattle. It sounds like the doors will come off.!! LOL!! :
Still hanging out for the tweeters though..

Ask HLC about rear vision mirror vibration ... LOL
My 12" couldn't quite keep up with the quick double time of the metal he was playing in the ute at Titan's.

Henri ... I was thinking for yours .... you might be better of with three decent 10" subs in the boot of yours.

Have you tried sticking a short section of velcro on the back - it would then stick to your dash mat, if you have one. If you don't yet have one, buy one!

I have a semi-permanent windscreen mount for it sitting in the box .... so will be look at installing that at some point ... but on the driver's side instead of in the middle of the dash.

I want it to look nice and neat ... plus i want to free up the cigarette lighter socket ... i currently have a sply connector in there to run other things while running the GPS as well.

StevenAu : Looks nice..... man, i just wanna hook up my ipod to the factory AU stereo. its stupid that it does not have a aux-in. I'd love to be able to have my ipod eject (electronically) on/out of the fascia when power on, and re-ject (whatever) back into fascia when power off. (just dreaming) ;)

The system sounds absolutely amazing. Its even better than mine .The only way to describe it is bling bling bling with a ring a ding ding!!the next step is some fluoro lights !!

Steve ..to stick the IPOD you will need to clean the wall of the console to remove the silicone. Then all you need is some nice sticky back velcro. Dont worry about glue..
Also we have one more trick up our sleeves for the ipod which will finish it nicely.
It was a good fun to do your car and have some good bloke conversation.
Zigee it can be hooked up to your factory stereo.

You can get velcro from 'Spotlight' , the shop that sells material and sewing stuff.

Using a hot glue gun works well for attatching things to a dash.

Like for a velcro strip, use just a squirt/drop on a butter knife , wait a second or so for it to cool off a tad but not harden , smear it over the back of the velcro strip , wait a few seconds for the glue to cool down a tadd so there is no chance of melting it permanentlly to the dash , when it's nearlly cooled and starting to go hard press it frimly onto the dash . Holds very well so long as u don't let the glue go too cold before you attach it to the dash . If you want to remove it later just get a hairdryer and run it over the strip a few times then peel off , leaves no mess / marks / or glue at all on the dash .

And the same one as i running in my ute.
Although it seams i've been the only one game enough to mount the head unit as far back as it goes, then make a surround up for it

Cheers

PS(Brief plans for when i get the money)
Is to make a custom rear box that will go accross the back of the ute. Remove the lip that's about 6 inch's tall in the back, mount the box on the floor. Have 2 10inch subs, 1 either side of the cabin, then mount 6 inch speakers on the top of the box. Add in hidden amps for the whole system, and make the whole thing look discrete so you can't tell whats in there, and it will be more than sweet.

I'm in the process of doing an upgrade on audio in my ute. It consists of the following...

Kenwood KDCX8529
Crossfire 6.5" splits powered by a 2 channel Crossfire 300W amp
Addition of a second Kenwood KFCW3009 12" sub
Upgrade of all wiring to 4 gauge

I've done stage 1 of this, which was to retire my old JVC DVD headunit and to add the second sub. Sound is still like I remembered it when I had the old system in it. Just with far better bass.

Stage 2 which is the splits, second amp and 4 gauge wiring I'm going to get a quote on tomorrow so I can get that done next week sometime.

After that, depending on how much I like the system, will determine how much further I want to go with it. Things I'm thinking of is replacing the amp that powers the subs, sound deadening and maybe some 6.5" 3 ways to help treble and midbass if I find the subs too overpowering.
