It was shortly after that the Skyhawks were retired from service, and I believe that was the last time the range was used for aircraft bombing and gunnery exercises. Not something most people would get to experience in their lives!

Sadly her fishing days are over, they raised her last evening and brought her in to the marina for lifting out early this morning....

Old, tired and a little unloved, she started taking on water and sank last November, 2 guys where rescued ok.... https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/nat...22-p56gr8.html ...when she was lifted out water was pouring out between between her planking.
She was a Bundy boat and had definitely seen better days.....

Fishing fleet at Coffs and Newcastle is a mix of steel, wood and glass boats in various states of decay similar to this one I guess. She would make a great liveaboard conversion with that beam and LOA.

Seems flat bottom cruisers and round bottom cruiser like to roll the most, flat bottom Halvorsen are known for it.

Below you can see two rusty paravanes on the top of the outriggers on the trawler berthed next to me, you can also see the top of the recovered trawler behind closed doors ashore, AMSA are crawling all over it.

Bit hard to see, a Hobby Falcon in a tree at my local park (phone camera zoomed in to the max).
Every year an adult and young one turn up and terrorise the local birds, great to watch them in action chasing cockys and wattle birds.

Hows this for coincidence, last week I was looking at a Catalina (as above), then yesterday my daughter in Broome said they had a very low tide so walked out to look at the wreck of a Catalina destroyed at anchor in Roebuck Bay Broome by a Japanese Zero during WW2. A little known fact, most Aussies knew about Darwin being attacked.
Exert from Clubmarine web site. "At 9:30 am on March 3, 1942, nine Japanese Zero fighter aircraft (from their newly occupied base in Timor) attacked the pearling town without warning. Lasting less than an hour, the attack was devastating. Some 25 American, British, Dutch and Australian aircraft were destroyed. Of the well over 40 official casualties, many were Dutch women and children, who were packed aboard 16 flying boats - Catalinas, Short Empires and Dorniers - anchored in what was believed to be the safe haven of Roebuck Bay. At the time they were either waiting to be unloaded and ferried ashore or being readied to fly further south."
