i've heard so many different opinions on this topic, and just wanna see what actual AU drivers have experienced.
1#Can i use my std AU xr8 shocks with superlow springs? 2#With superlows will i require a camber kit or would this only be needed if i had ssl's? Cheers |

I have superlows in the ute (herrod suspension) and it has a Kmac camber kit fitted. The shocks are uprated ones though.

My car is an AU2 Futura and I went to King lows I still had to get a camber kit installed, there seems to be conflicting stories when it comes to camber kits and I just put it down to each car being different, some made need it some might not but going to super lows then i would think you will.
Cheers Alpineau

On my standard BA ute I went to super lows. This is a huge difference compared to going down from XR height. Well I've been measuring tread depth with my verniers ever since (about 5000ks now) and there is still no difference. I have noticed though it pogos along. I need wshocks with more damping. But XRs already have uprated shocks.

So the XR's have shorter shocks than the standards, correct? If I put King Lows (ie. XR height) in a Fairmont would I need to change shockies?

The ute sits 2 inches below XR height.
The tyres wear evenly, and the shocks are still standard with no drama. The ute has been this way for about 40 000. I do think its about time for an upgrade though, but thats not due to any problems, just dreaming of somthing better... |

As for the inital question, the answers are already here, though mixed. I have superlows in the front of both my AU1 XR8 and my AU2 Forte wagon. Neither required a camber/castor kit, as there is plenty of adjustment left in the factory bolts. However, my old AU2 V8 Forte did require a camber/castor kit, as the lock nuts were right on the ends of the bolts, meaning no further adjustment was possible, so the kit was fitted as a precaution. As for the rears, I have XR standard springs in the rear, but with the LPG tank in there, it sits about as low as SLs anyway. No alignment issues with that either. The wagon has King HD lowered leaf springs, and they are a perfect match for the SLs in the front, and no rear alignment issues at all. I have used standard shocks on these vehicles, and they are all fine, if a little harsh on bigger bumps. A set of short stroke Konies, or similar, will remove some of the harshness but really are not required for Lows (approx 30mm lower than stock), or SLs (approx 40 to 45mm lower than stock). SSLs are between 55 and 60mm lower than stock, and really need a new shock, as the standard shocks will never have full travel.

My car having been optioned with the XR suspension wasnt enough for me so i fitted a castor-camber kit and SSL king springs.
The isssue i have now is that all four shocks are stuffed thanks to the local corrupt government and NSW careless road repairs. Monroe dont make shocks for the height im at and have been told to go to a Koni item but i couldnt be bothered spending upto 1000+ for set of shocks if im getting rid of the car within 12 months. SL are fine but SSL if you want to look fully sick and have a very harsh ride.
