Guys, we have an AU2 SR and it lacks power. There is a slight misfiring, noticeable at idle speeds. Cars been serviced recently by a repairshop that does taxis. They reckon that everything's ok, i say it's a load of bull!!. Compared to another AU2 on duel fuel with no mods, the SR comes out 2nd best by a mile. The takeoff is sluggish and i'm a bit suspicious about the fuel ecenomy too. I think it's time to pull the old toolbox out! What do you guys suggest?. :

Might have the wrong spark plugs then - or they've touched the idle settings.

Could be plugs, leads, coil pack, clogged TB, air filter, trannie on the way out, O2 sensor, MAP sensor, blocked cat/exhaust, inlet manifold leak.........

Topgun sells a lead kit for the AUs at around $60 for the 6 (or $200 odd for the V8s) - though make sure you get the right set for your month/year of manufacture as Ford changed the coil pack clips on the I6s early on in 2000 (March, IIRC). Plugs and leads always the first things to change, and just work from there. Let us know how you go - we can then give more specific info once you have ruled some things out.

check that the accelerator cable gromets are in all good condition. ford did a recall on some AU's as the grommet became faulty and there was a severe loss in power. this may be something to check out. www.recalls.gov.au
