Default Another bloody CAI question

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has done the swap from the SS intake
to the G&D box, and what the results where like?
The ute already has SS, zorst, edit, but always want more :evil3:
$595 is a big ask though if there is little or no gain.

Get the G&D box, AND an edit to make the most of the new intake and exhaust and you will see serious benefits. Wihtout the edit, you will only see minor gains.

Surely if you need an edit to make the airbox worthwhile, it's not saying that much for the airbox.

I'd be spending money elsewhere eg underdrives or a cam etc.

You don't NEED an edit to make the box worthwhile, just to maximise the potential the box brings.

I guess if he does go that way he has the edit already so it's just a retune that's necessary.

Airbox, exctractors, exhaust, cat backs, cam (maybe converter) then the edit, that's the way to go if you want some decent results and reliability. That's what Glenn @ G+D has planned for my ute :evil3: , as just the air intake alone, you get a great induction noise and some more kw's, haven't done the before and after comparison on the dyno with the ute.

I know RspecAU gained 12kw's after installing the G+D Box and doing a couple of dyno runs with no edit.

The air intake will benefit...A if your existing tune is spot on then it may throw it out and need a retune. B In some cases depending on air fuel ratios it may be what is needed to correct bad ratios. In this case you will gain some power.

If you are going to get a cai make sure that you have your exhaust done first because the effects are bigger. If anything it helps the exhaust get out quicker .

If I could go back in time ...I would have bought the stall converter and 4.11 diff ratio first. The I would have done the head, cam intake ,exhaust and finally a tune.

Probably should have mentioned that the ute's an 8, and given that we have a MAF I find it hard to believe that I would need a retune.

The question was purely the advantages of 1 over the other...

How so?
I realise this would be the case with 6's and BA's that run a speed density system. However with windsor 8's airflow is measured, not guessed.

The ute will eventually get acustom tune anyway...

Thanks Whoosha that was the sort of response i was after.

I guess you didn't read what had already been done to the ute before deciding what order i should do things in... So yes i did read what you wrote.

Useless, you seemed offended by my last post, don't be. Just puzzled as to how possibly putting more air into a metered system can change AFR's

A decent airbox such as these does wonders for the note too, a deep throaty growl to the induction

Nar Im not offended ,I just thought we were on different wavelengths. the fact of the matter is that a stock mtered system was never intended to have exhaust, race inductions and cams. The fuel maps and ignition maps have been set in the eecv by the factory with some safety parameters for wear and tear. See you are right in a way the car has its maf sensor metered to a standard program. Not performance.I hope this start to make you realise where you can benefit.

Im pretty sure some one did there own testing on the SS CAi compared to the G&D one.
The G&D style had a lower air temp in the box and showed a power gain over the SS style.
Dont hold me or quote me but I think the G&D style was 4-5 rwkw better than the SS style.

No tune involved.

What about a ba xr8 air podbox with the second air intake plumbed up with a bmc or k&n filter. bpt and a few others have seen 12rw with just the second intake. plus add the bmc or whateva maybe an extra few. and its over half the price cheaper.

That's what I have in our wagon. Induction noise is great & low to mod throttle response is brilliant. Not sure there's more power, but it is definitely better to drive.
