How much power did you make with Dev 4 cam, and exhaust on your original engine?

I reckon your current long motor is not up to scratch....

Either get it rebuilt or swap it for another low mileage AU motor.

Find a decent tuner for the edit too. Take the wife and kids for a holiday to Cambpelfield Victoria ;)

You can try to find power in the heads, other than that your running out of places to look (depending on how far your willing to take things).

Think youll struggle to get another 20 without a cam change as well.

I am gathering ideas guys.Firstly..I have recently discovered that my hi flow cat was a aftermarket standard replacement one which was restrictive.I got a new cat and the car is already pulling to 60kays on average .1 quicker. I am going through everything.Tonight I replaced extractor gaskets and it feels even better. My goal is to do 0-60 kmph in 3 seconds flat and a 0-60mph in a genuine 6 to 6.5 seconds.

The guys who install my converter also build race engines...might be time to get an au1 head from the wreckers and put 1k on the table.I have extensive how to manuals on diy porting but I think a flow bench is better.

I pulled 150.1 rwkws on croydons dyno but the car was a dog down low...slow as.Now on Croydons dyno it pulls 141 to 147.7 rwks but the thing is quite torquey. The commodore v6 's which used to beat me are now being left up to 5 car lengths behind to 60 kays....

I think this cylinder head is the bottleneck of my system.Myother 2 prior motors were au 1 and this is au2 .I thinkthe au2 may be slightly different. I will be getting an au1 head soon!!

They dont use the flow bench while porting the head. They will only put it on when they are finish and will only do one port - and thats usually only if you ask (and pay) them to.

More static compression would help, maybe 10:1. You would need to have ignition timing dialed in again, and start running premium only...

Maybe its time to step up your exhaust from the cat back to 3"?

Maybe you need a full 3" mandrel bent intake pipe and a bigger pod filter?

You definitely need bigger tyres for the street. Are you still running your 15" rims?

Maybe take some advice from some experts in i6 4.0L development i.e. G&D...?

Thought of NOS? I know you cant use it for steet use, but if our engines can handle it ( can someone tell me if they can), than it might be worth looking into. Its also cheap to install, although not to tune ( as is my understanding).

I think your info is all good, as for can the engine take it... a lot will depend on the tuning.
Brendan Mock tells me his bottom end is stock in his i6 and thats had more shots put through it than a farmers shot gun..

useless, dont get rid of youre converter... you would be crazy 2. I will guarantee you youre car will be slower with the sock converter. Im running a 4000 converter on 6 cyl engine that doesnt see past 5800-6000, its the best thing i ever done.

Man haas it really done 1,000,000 km.... i so dont think so, cose the AU motors at work that ive seen do 800,000-900,000 are totaly stuffed...

Up the compression or add N2O. Not both.

To increase the compression the head must come off.Nos is kinda crossing the line into race car...maybe for a future toy.A good cylinder head is worth 10-15%.So based on 141 rwkws at the moment I should see 151 rwkws at the treads.

I am avoiding at all costs to crack the head off but it seems like the answer here.

A 3 inch exhaust may be on the cards soon.

I think a dev 5 cam or bigger billet cam may also be on the cards. This is the easiest way to gain power...more lift. With the stallie more power most probaly wont hurt takeoff.

Nar...G&D are terrific but half the satisfaction is doing it yourself, making some mistakes learning and see it hopefully crack some decent times.

As a street car though at the moment it is awesome.Just marvellous to drive...I know that with the jewelry in there right now that it can go about 10 to 15% max better.I think my 2.5 inch lukey exhaust sux. I looked under my car and it is not even mandrel bent. There are press bends everywhere. So my 1/1/2 year old exhaust will be the first to go in the bin.
The other issue is this ticking noise may be my extractors...I hope not...or ill have to get them repaired as well.I know that number 6 exhaust lifet is very very tight too. The shimming of the regrind cam moves the lifter in its bore further out and they jam. This is why a billet is looking very good to me.

When shops open again I will be talking to these guys and a few others here ..http://www.hitechmufflers.com.au/mufflers.html

If you really want a car that is well behaved on the street, I'd go NOS too. If only Qld let you have the brackets and fittings in a street car, let alone the bottle :( The best thing about the nitrous is the car drives the same day to day but has the extra punch for the track. You are never going to make a circuit racer out of a wagon so for straight line fun and games the nitrous is by far the best bang for buck option imho..

Thats cool ..I know they quoted me 500 for a cat.!!! I have been talking to Japanese nissan gtr exhaust specialists in Sydney from Japan who have seup shop here.
There cars look like fast and furious but they go hard.

I have heard that in Japan a 10 second gtr is too slow!! Take that passion ,pay the money and should go quicker. I had a local exhaust shop in my area refused to install jmm extractors and said they are crap internet jobbies. I ran a 15.1 on them..and I know that their perry exhaust on my late xc falcon did nothing for that car.All theyre good for is there cracks hanging out of their shorts and crap on.

And to test your exhaust is letting you down, find your 'racetrack' and gtech it a few times with the exhuast dropped after the headers, then a few runs again dropped after the cat (if both ends of your cat are flanged of course) . A 3" would sound obscene in traffic but if it knocks alittle of your times it is something you might want to consider, BUT if dropping the pipe makes no difference you know that upgrading is a waste of cash

get the rest of the Dev4 or the street fighter head to go with the cam..
get a 3in mandrel bent exhaust..
and get the edit re tuned..

or drop a V8 in lol.. ftg have a TE50 5.6L motor/box/loom/ecu for $4500 (i think)

racecraft, 3in is terrific in traffic, the sheer sound scares off a few people lol, and alot of people think twice before giving you a run off a set of lights.. but it also sounds very nice.. i love it..

Nos isnt really something for the street, i almost bought it a few months back, complete dry set up for $800... imo its a waste of money on a street car.. you cant use it legally.. and without pressing the little switch the car has no change at all.. why not work the motor so it goes hard all the time?

If you really want to see the big numbers a DEV5 cam and race head from JMM will see you getting 175rwkw on Croydens dyno for sure.

With your 3.7 diff and hi stall i will bet that would get you into mid 14's on a good day.

I reckon even now if you ran a cool dry still winter wednesday night WSID street meet you would get a 14.

The problem is the TS mph is still a little low you need more power or less weight.

My new years resolution is to lose some weight so how about you join me on that and I bet we run in winter and lose a few tenths.
