Default mk2 cortina tailshaft

hey all just did a manual conversion on my mk2 cortina everything is sweet except the rear gearbox seal is leaking, i very well could of damaged it putting it in but the other thing is I used my automatic tailshaft, i do have a manual tailshaft but the mounting yolk on the rear of the manual tailshaft dosent match my diff mounting holes, i have a english axle and the manual tailshaft is suited for the borgwarner axle, i tryed swapping the rear yolks but the uni joints are bigger on the manual then the auto so i just wacked in the auto one, i know its 20mm or so shorter then the manual tailshaft, could this be why its leaking and will the auto tailshaft handle the manual box? cheers

The extra 20mm should be so it doesn't fall out.
