I was born here, so were my parents, my grandfather on my Dads side came here after WW2 when he was discharged from the Royal Navy, my Grandmother was born here aswell, but her background further back is English/Irish
M Grand father on my Mums side is Australian, his Father was had a Scottish/Irish background, My grandmother is Australian. One of her aancestors arived here in about 1850 as a convict from Britain, after "stealing" rum fom a house to help a lady in the street recover after she collapsed. Theres more to the family than that, but i wont explain the rest because i'll be here for hours!!

Mothers side - English and Irish (English where on the second fleet), otherside German.
Dads side - English
We have been here (all my ancestors) for at least 3 generations that I know of. As far as Im concerned Im an Aussie bloke with tendencies to be a bogan. I eat meat, I drink beer, Im not an appologist, and I speak english (when Im not drunk that is).
Cheers big ears.

Oh, the exquisite irony!! Thanks for that, lol.

Anyhoo, we've been around since 1802. Seems my Irish ancestor was a pig thief.

Got 10 years for theft and when his time was up he brought his wife and son over. As a free man and with his wife's able assistance he became quite the entrepreneur. Had 8 more kids who also had a bag of kids.

As a by the by, *all* the people who were born in Australia or New Zealand with my surname are direct descendents of the pig thief and therefore we are all directly related.
Our story is interesting enough (to us at least) that a few years ago a book was written about our history in oz.

Finding it hard to remember things with age LOL but it goes something like this:

Great grandparents born in Spain. They move to Sicily. Grandparents then born in Sicily. They then move to and settle in Dalmacija, Croatia. Dad born in Croatia. He moved to Australia. Dad marries Hungarian (my biological mother) They make me (born here in Carlton) Dad splits and raises me alone as a Croat. But then......

Dad re-marries to a Serb. Her parents (my step-grandparents) Serb. Her brother (my step-uncle) marries a Macedonian. Cousins born & raised Maco.

My grandparents (on my biological mums side) were Russian.

Confused? Yeah me too! LOL.

So my background is quite mixed but I was raised Croat so that's what I am
man, you're like one mixed up ethnic fruit salad
- thought I had a good combo bein half Croat half Maco with bulgarian cousins on one side, slovenians on the other.

Apart from some family offshoots who have spawned Croatian children (my uncle's family, but I love them nevertheless) I've got pure Serbian blood in my veins. I've been able to trace some of my roots back to what is now Montenegro, when they moved around 1690.

Although I take pride in my Serbian heritage, I'm not much of an Aussie Serb. Can't do the national dance, language is an issue, don't do Serbian dance parties, etc. However, I've inherited the Serbian ability to drink! haha
