I've spoken to mechanic and told him infor/dilemmas. I mentioned checking TDC before re dialing cam, he said that would be an idea because apparently after following instructions, it had 32 degrees retard from TDC on the lift. Sound bad????
I see how the computer is overcompensating but I not a real big cam man, I like to deal with driving. PS, i looked closer and the IT is 50, not 58, but that's still in the same ballpark.

Well thanks to all those who inputted into the great mack 6 dilemma.
I gave the car back last week and combined with the info I recieved and explained what I needed to be done (ie. check TDC, advance cam etc.) I won't say how much they stung me for "extensive dyno testing" but I have to say I'm happier with the final outcome. I would post a copy of the dyno sheet, btu my system at work is buggerising around and I'll have to do it later. Although I have lost 2.6rwkw (it was strapped in as per shootout regs, but wasn't last time), I gained a hell of a lot of bottom end power and tractive torque. I know it's not quite up there, but I'm hoping a few minor changes I'm planning and a flash tune in a few months may bring the levels up a lot more. I do have some tappet/shim noise from under the bonnet which I expressed concern about, but was told that it will sound noisy for a while and possibly settle down, did anyone else have a similar result.

Thats not too bad an output at all. The 3HL still has decent low rev response too so it should feel pretty good in the seat of the pants

It does feel a hell of a lot better.
Had a run up against an AU XR8 the other day, and without stalling it up and leaving it in drive, I was ahead of him all the way until we backed off (80 in a 80 zone) He was revving the guts out of it too. He probably would have caught me eventually.

time to take it to the drags, that will give you a very good idea how it goes.

That's the plan. I don't know when next off street is happening at AIR, but I'll be there.
I want new exhaust and edit, but I'll do that later. If i find out next drag date, who's coming for support?

My car pulled 113.4 rwkw. With only cat-back and some small intake changes.
So stock wise, AUs should pull about ~105rwkw. So from your exhaust, and intake you gained about ~15rwkw. I'd say. Try and take it to the track and get a better indication. Hamo only had 140-150rwkw, but yet he pulled a 14.

The mechanical shift kit mades a difference. It's not too harsh, but has definately quickened up the changes.
I'll keep this thread up to date with times at drags. |

What i was trying to get at. Was that, you don't need a heap of power to move.
You may have lost 2kw or whatever, but you might of gotten 0-0.3 seconds quicker. Plus I'd know I'd want the low end power. Who goes over 80/100 km/h these days on the street? Intake Temp is still up slightly. Your own "power pipe" might have a gap somewhere, getting hot air. You should look into getting a different and more professional one maybe. LG

you are right, power is not the be all, end all. I'm looking for a 14.9 in an auto with only 135rwkw.

Haven't been down the strip yet but have 113.9rwkw with stock AU II auto wagon with Tickford intake. I was quite surprised by that figure. Could it be the diff in the wagon making this mechanically stock car have 10 or so more kw than a stock sedan?

g'day mack..
good to see you've finally had it all sorted out.. bottom end power looks so much better.. just off 130rwkw, gotta be happy with that, thats fairly respectable.. now just have to wait to see the difference the edit makes... Caspers up for a 14.9, 135rwkw will do it.. my car has 136rwkw and pulled off a 14.9 |

hey,
i had similar problems when i put a dev3hl kit in my auto au. mine was running real rich and it took about a month to figure it out. i got similar bottom end power compared to before but when it hits 3ooorpms it takes off. if it is still running rich check your pressure regulator because it is a common problem for the au. i got mine replaced and now i get over 400ks to the tank whereas before i was getting less than 200. keep us posted on the edit cause i am considering it myself. cheers |

How much of a power increase can an Auto AU2 Falcon handle? How much power can you through at the chassis, auto transmission, brakes etc..?

Cheers DOC,
I saw that after I posted and hadn't gotten around to doing what you did. I have actuallt email them asking for info about the meet. Having never gone to drags as competitor, I wanted to know the rough format and how many runs I can expect to be able to do. Don't want to get blown away first run while playing with stall and shifting then have to go home. |

Glad to hear its all going quite well now. The dyno's not such a bad number and they all lieso worry only if it doesn't back up on the strip with a good terminal speed. look to be into the low 90's and you know its all good. the ET is a bit harder that needs practice.
