Question AU XR8 Header Q's

Hey all just wondering has anyone had and experience with the herrod headers they are tri y's and come with cats and are stainless steel. Do they do much for power increase if so where in rev range down low grunt or more free reving. Also would be good experiences with 4into 1's.

I cant remember who make the current Herrod headers for the windsor, maybe DePhilipo?

The best results for mild Windsor V8 engines seem to be coming from those guys running the Hurricane headers. Many 5.6L guys making 220-odd rwkw and running mid-13's with these headers...

Last quote I got for Hurricanes, cats, and 3" catback was $1500 fitted (Liverpool Exhaust). Stainless is overrated in my opinion.

Unless u've got really high pressures coming out ya outlet manifold ( really worked engine ) then stainless imo too is a bit overated / for headers anyways .. I did see a HQ years ago with a 308 blow cast headers to bits , shattered them , and thattered the bloke too ..lol , poor bugger had just had his engine blue printed and everyhting was to specs ( fully worked though ) , first gutfull he gave it it just blew the exractors to pieces ( they were cast 1's ) ..... anyways , prom personal experience though a full stainless exhaust system does make a difference sound wise , no diff performance wise though . ;) gl

Not really a relevant link. There's a lot of difference between a Windoor 5.0/5.6, and a BOSS Truck motor.

I have the Herrods 4into1s and was told by all not to fit them as they are really only suitable for high HP motor. Mine makes a little bit more than stock, but then it's not highly modified. What these headers do, however, is to get the engine breathing freely at higher RPM. Down low, I have probably lost some grunt, but the beauty of the V8 is I can't feel any differnece down low, but can feel the car pull like a freight train up to the redline.

BUT....if I had my time again, I would go Pacemakers tri-Ys, or the Hurricane headers from Liverpool exhaust.

Thanks for your replys, well so far it has 10:1 comp, ported heads bigger one peice valves, rollers, arp main stud kit and rod bolt kit, crow roller, race series coated pistons, all match ported and balanced. 185rwkw at herrod but advised me to get rid of std ser2 headers and cats, but the thing is it pulls from idle through too 6500rpm so do you's think new headers will improve. he showed me the product, and i was very impressed with the quality.
When i fitted it to my ute, i was very happy, and still am.

Philstoj: What headers did you end up purchasing the 4into1's? r they hpc coated and when did you notice the power diff up high or did you loose any grunt off the mark. What does he selll them for roughly

I got the 4 into 1's, the big banger ones, with the hi flow cats and the single 3" system. They werent hpc coated, but he can supply them coated for you.
I didnt lose any bottom end torque, it picked up 20 rwhp and it was a stock 200kw engine, and has great power and torque thru out the rev range.

Sounds like you've got a pretty solid little windsor setup there...

Your other option would be to find someone who will modify your stock XR8 4-1 "shortys" with a larger 2 1/" collector. Simon from Xtreme Ford Tuning has done this to a couple of T3's with good results.

I was making 160rwkw with stock headers and exhaust, and PB was 14.544 @ 95.02mph

I fitted Pacy 4-1s (PH4006, 1 5/8 pri 2 1/2 collector), 2 1/2" cats, and lukey 3" single.

I was now making 170rwkw, but more telling was my 14.291 @ 97.47mph in 38 degree heat.

Throttle response is not as brilliant as it was with the stock headers, but i think this is more to do with the fact I am still running the stock tune.

Yeh she goes ok but still hungry for power well a few more kw's wouldn't go a stray, herrod and heaps of other places have told me to get rid of them cause they are a waste of space but they cant be to bad considering the power still being achieved. im considering some tri y's so i get some more low down grunt but i dunno still not decided so many around.
XR8ute: Pretty good time considering the heat factor they really liven up these little windsor with a bit of loving.

They are great little motors, especially in the AU's with the GT40p heads, Explorer inlet, and 70mm MAF.

I can't wait to get back to the track in some cool dry weather and with a tune. My best 60' is a relatively slow 2.140 at the moment...first gear in the auto is really tall, and I can't stall it up any higher than about 1800rpm before i get wheelspin.

If I was sticking with n/a I'd fit a 2500-3000rpm stall converter. Would be nice to run a 14.0 or 13.9 before I fit the blower though.

Good luck with your choice. Its hard when there are so many, but with relatively little evidence in the form of track times or dyno sheets to help make your decision easier.

But I reckon any pacemaker, herrod, or hurricane header will make an improvement over the stock headers and their tiny collectors at the power level you are at...

I have the Herrod 4-1 and 2.5in exhaust and I found I didn't loose any low down grunt, if anything I gained a little but the real improvement is it pull's all the way to the redline, and strong at that.

i put some pacemakers on my sedan, and i didnt find a sacrifice at any RPM, alot more torque downlow, and very happy to rev its hole out

It sure does - except for the ticking noise, but that's being fixed as I type (new exhaust manifold gaskets going in).

Can't beat the sound of a 5.0 V8 (except maybe with a 351 Clevo)

Thanks for your replys i think im gonna go with herrods stainless ones which come with cats and bolt straight up, at the moment i have a twin 2 1/4 system with one muffler which is 2 in 2 out type and sound real good at idle and right up 2 6500rpm but hope the headers make it a little bit deeper but doesnt matter.
