Default Just Signed The Contract

Hi all,

I'm both new to this site and a first time Ford owner. Just signed the contract today on a WQ Fiesta, in the new Sea Grey colour.

Its a big change to the cars I have previously and currently own, being worked V8's. So naturally I cant wait till my new toy is run in and then start shopping for some mods.

I'll be looking for a free flow air filter and full exhaust, so if anyone is running headers and pipe I'd be interested to know how much of an improvement it makes. I dont want something that drones inside the cabin but one that gives a better sound at the back and a few extra kw's.

Anyway, I have been told I can take delivery first week of Jan, so looking forward to that.

Champ welcome and good luck with your new ride, but i see it strange wanting to mod the fiesta, and doing all of the exhaust / air etc / not wanting it to drone and extra kw. all this coming from a worked V8, i'm just left feeling you might be let down, they are a great car but trying to turn it into muscle i cant picture.

I hear you, but thats why we're here, we just can't leave the cars we buy stock. Plus, with such a light car, I imagine an extra 10 kw's would make a huge diff.

Being the zetec its already got some looks with the wheels, so maybe just lower it and then go to work on the engine.

How you going buddy...congrats on the purchase (even though you havent got it yet lol) In regards to all that stuff you asked about......

a) get a new panel filter which will free up Air flow alot. or you can get a Decent Pod filter, for that you want to get a custom Cold Air Intake....so far K&N appollo is pretty good.

b) with your exhaust it will free up the revs alot....it will feel easier to accelerate and all....BUTif your looking for MAJOR power gains. it will cost $$$$$ the MK6 is not an easy car to mod. well so far as there arent manythings for it...if you want extractors youll have to import them from the UK. Just Ask heamophiliac he has recently got them and would be best on commenting......

What color and Model is the Fiesta your getting?

Hello, welcome to the Fez World.

In my opinion, I wouldnt waste money on a panel filter or un enclosed pod filter. Definitley go for a K&N Apollo Filter approx $200 - $250. You will need to get a pipe to TB but the improvement is very noticable. No idea on exact gain but it sounds a ripper in my AUTO box.

In regards to exhaust, as photn has metioned, the UK will be your best source for headers, as i think peeps in AUS have no idea. Exhaust best to go 2 inch, throw in a hi flow cat and it should sound sweeet.

Oh and.. welcome theclemster! Just curious, why did u go from worked V8s to a Fiesta?
I hope they're not postponing the delivery date. Keep us posted.

If you're in Sydney, you should come out to our cruises sometimes.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forums? Where are you located?

Mod wise alot of things will need to be imported from the UK or custom made here but if you shop around you can get stuff at very good prices. Extractors can be had from the UK from $750shipped. For intake unless you do some heavy mods I would go a BMC panel filter and take out the internal resonator from the airbox(It unclips and I found makes the car more responsive at part throttle).

That should give you a nice little increase and make the car more fun to drive. After that you will need ECU to get benefits.

Piotr, How does the internal Ressie come off?

I pulled mine apart and mine looked like it was all one mould...

See the flap that extends from the entry point. Pull that upwards and it'll come off taking most of the top section with it

Hi mate,

the fez is really only going to be a bit of a poser.

My advice is to make sure you've got some money put aside if you are going to put the headers on.

I'm still paying for mine. When you fit them you'll need a new cat because you can't reuse the stock one (not that you'de want to i spose). and the wiring for the O2 sensors will need to be lengthened. I got an auto electrician to do mine so that it was done right, but theres another 150-200 bucks.

The headers themselves cost me $723 au from Pumaspeed including postage. but then it was another $700 by the time they were fitted and everything was working properly (that includes a hilfow cat and flexi joint and new wiring for O2 sensors tho).

Pumaspeed website says 14bhp for the focus 1.6l engine, which is basically the same as ours... i dont know about that but its better, revs better, eliminates a few flat spots.

sounds great tho. bottom line is tho, your still gonna get owned by most stuff no matter what you do to it.

its a great little car thats fun to drive round the corners tho :P

No I havent done an aftermarket panel filter, but just from other peoples neutral feedback on it, it doesn't seem as feasable and give any overall gain if you thinking about major mods compared to say enclosed pod contraption.

I have tried the un enclosed pod and it gives off the most induction noise outta all three but, remember the engine dont like hot air. I tried using a radiator sock and even heat shielding but it was till quite hot. This gave the good response and noise thata bout it.

Currently K&N Apollo is in and running strong. Custom intake pipe which i am currently investigating to keep it cold and it is still hot. Nice cold air feed from the right fog light. to me it makes the car feel more alive. and its an auto.

My suggestion is Full Stainless Exhaust, Militec 421 headers and a K&N Apollo to probabaly get the full potential. Put this on a XR4 then u should be able to see some serious $Hiit

Hey, thanks to everbody for their replies and suggestions, some great feedback.

I hope I dont get punted for saying this, but I still have 320 kw's of SS sitting in the garage for weekends. The zetec is really my wifes car, but if I can make it run a bit better what the hell.

By the way my dealer in Canberra rang me today to say I will have delivery by 3 or 4 Jan. Also I spend a fair bit of time in Sydney so once I have the wheels I'll look forward to a cruise.

Shyte! 320Kw (at the wheels?) SS, that's cool. Well I try to respect what people own, whatever it is... and you shouldnt get punted.. we're friendly bunch of people. So is it a VT? VY? VZ? VE?

So the SS is for weekends, the Fez is for the wife, what's your daily driver?

lol the wifes car ivan lol......

Yer mate well just alittle more power out of it would be good.....butwhat you will notice is that when you come near corners the Fez hugs the road and refuses to let go......all you need is a set of Eibach Lowering springs to give it a better stance/ride height and your set.....basically out manuver most things on the road.....

Ivan: They havn't cracked the 1.6L duratec ECU as far as I know. So you will need to get an aftermarket ECU or an interceptor. The XR4 on the otherhand can gets its stock ECU retuned to suit your mods.

I wish, sorry for being unclear. The average of the dyno runs was 260 at the wheels, so my tuner calcualted the conservative estamate of 320 engine kw's. Its a black VY.

Up till now, the wife has been driving the ss to her work (safer for the kids), and I have been driving and old bomb. But with the purchase of the zetec, she says I can take my pick. I must have been good lately!
