Mk 2 Escort Front Struts

Hi to all you learned and knowledgeable people....guess you all figured by now that I am on the scrounge for vital information....I woudl like to confirm the difference between the front struts on a 1.6litre MK2 and a 2L MK2. It appears that the coil springs differ but I want to know if there is a difference between the actual struts. Are the 2L struts stronger etc. I have been told they differ and we are putting a 2L into our 1.6 2 door. No doubt someone on here will have done this before and can offer some tips.
