Default Question about XR's

Hi Guys

As far as I knew all XR's were "Tickford enhanced' engines.
I was told when I bought my XR from the dealer it's not a Tickford engine.

The plate under the bonnet says.. this car has the following tickford enhancements:
Bodykit

Does this mean my car is not the 164kw engine.. only a 157kw standard au falcon motor?

If so why am i paying Insurance for a high performance car if its just a falcon with a tickford body kit?

and also.. why the heck did i pay over $11,000 for it if it's not the performance engine.

Fill me in!

All xr6 and xr8 falcons are tickford enhanced !! so i am assuming it's an xr6 and yes should be a tickford non vct or vct powerplant!!!!
Does it have the red cover ontop

Red Rocker Cover, but where does the T symbol go? Im guessing it doesn't have one or it's under the cover thing. Why does the plate not say the engine is tickford enhanced though? The dealer said its NOT a tickford motor.. ?? Oh and it's not VCT

If I were you, I'd be ringing Ford with your VIN so they can look it up and tell you how it was sold from factory.

As in the plate SHOULD say

bla bla following tickford enhancements:
Bodykit
Engine

But it only says Bodykit?
And im going off what the dealer said

If I can find where the T symbol is i can kind of verify?

Well can anyone else tell me that has an AU XR what there tickford plates say? Also are your rocker covers all red? And lastly been an XR shouldn't it have a tickford snorkle rather than the standard air intake snorkle?

Any other XR owners out there should be able to help me

There should be a T stamped on the front of the head just below the rocker cover

My Tickford stamp plate thingy just says Bodykit and Rims from memory. I don't recall the engine being recorded on the Tickford plate....

ok, heres the rub. The "plate" only applys to extra's. In fact my XR6VCT doesnt even have one as it was ordered without any extras like 17" rims or bodykit.

ALL XR6 AU's have the 164kw engine as standard or the 172kw VCT as standard so it will not appear on the plate at all. Just like the Tickford suspension, adaptashift auto and Tickford "Twin light" nosecone. None appear on the "plate" as all are standard on the car.

i agree with casper, because in the end the end the car IS an XR6 so its not mentioned on the Tickford Enhanced plate, my car is Herrod Enhanced and it doesn't mention the 290kW, it says its got the bodykit and etc..

Mine's weird - its got 3 plates. One from dealer, one from Tickford and one from Herrod. I always found it odd that Tickford dont list the engine type, the diff etc because I think it would be a better, more accurate record of what makes it an XR if they did.

Mine doesnt even have the plate - yet it has 17" tickford rims. So they must have been fitted later?

The good news - it is the 164kw engine. the bad news? The only difference is a freer exhaust, red rocker cover and larger valves, IIRC. Everything else is exactly the same as you would find on any Taxi Spec falcon.

Because they can get away with charging it

That's something only you can answer. In a lot of ways, you would have been better off buying a Forte and working the motor, or getting a V8, but then you would miss out on owning a genuine XR - enhanced by Tickford (!).

On an e series the xr6 got bigger exhaust valves, on au that xr valve combo became standard so au xr6 = better exhaust and better ecu tune?

actually the XR6 HP exhaust was identical to a Forte's from headers to tip. No difference at all. The bottom end was identical too. The XR engine mods were restricted to valves and a slightly different cam on the HP's. Notably though the ECU was very different, especially for the auto's (as the edit has come to prove)

So just out of curiosity, what were the options that were possible to have listed on the plate? Bodykit, MOMO Gear, Suspension on non-XR models - what else?

My AU is a Fairmont ghia with the Tickford VCT standard "168kw" the only differance between this and the XR range is the exhaust thats why the XR's have 172kw.

The car is Also optioned with the Tickford Supension-3.45 diff but the only thing between mine and a XR is adaptive shift, body kit and the dashboard cluster and controls.

The tickford engines are easier to modify too as they dont need to be tinkered as much as they have a nice amount of power standard.
