Default AU manual conversion

I know this topic keeps coming up and I've done searches.
But What i would like to know is- Can you convert a
series 1 automatic Au falcon to manual using an E series manual from say like a EA falcon? If so can you point me to someone who has succesfully carried
it out.

I only know of one person that has put a EA T5 into his AU. Not sure what he did. He is on fordforums.com. He is actually selling it, for about 800 i think.

You need some modifications for a V8 T5, to be put up to a I6. Things like the bell housing and input shaft.

The EA T5's and older, were weaker then the newer T5s. It'd be best to find the same model gearbox.

I found a guy in Victoria, that has a T5 for an AU, for about $900ish i think.

I found one full conversion in NSW, for $1900.

A full conversion, is likely to set you back about $1000-2500 + labour.

And that $2000 will cover, everything, new clutch, clutch cable, gear boot, gear knob, pedals.. All that jazz.

Found an AU XR6 T5, that has done 5000 kms for $1200 in VIC. No bell housing or other parts (I dont think). 0417289663

The other AU XR6 T5, comes with clutch plate, flywheel, wiring, cable, $950ono in VIC. 0413076756

IT's Performance in NSW, could track the rest of the parts you need. Also eBay, and some other sources, you could organize all your parts for it. Just takes money and time.

The AU's can be done like the EF/EL's. You can re-solder two parts of the ECU. Otherwise you will need a new "Manual" ECU. And get it re-programmed to suit your car. As your car won't start if you just chuck it in.

As for the Pedals, you can get the Mal Wood Clutch Pin Adapter for $100 or so. To add on to your Auto Pedal Box. Or track down a whole new manual pedal box.

My conversion has been put on hold due to not being able to get a RIP shifter until mid January. As soon as BA CompanyCAr gets some stock I ready to rock and roll

About that ECU again. Did you get your Falcon ECU, flashed to the same as an XR6 Manual. Or did you get a XR6 Manual ECU and programmed for your Falcon?

And also, the Center Console. Are they different? Do you need a manual one?

Manual ECU flashed to my BEM and key is the plan

I have looked at the consoles and although I think the opening is the same the manual console has the gear stick boot folded and attached to the underside of the console.. I gave the boot a quick wiggle and it seems to be glued on. For that reason I am just going to swap the whole console

center consoles are identical between man and auto, they are not cgluen on, just clipped in, they can be quite tought to get out for the first time

as for the ECU: eitehr way is possible

So, could i just get my Forte Auto ECU, re-flashed/programmed to say a XR6 Manual, or a Falcon S Manual.

If you were to get a XR6 ECU would you need the XR fuel rail, for the fuel rising regulator?

By the way, Chief still has his 14 second Engine if anyone wants.

The bottom bellhousing bolts won't line up if you use an EA bellhousing. sphell on the forums put an AU engine in his EA using an EA t5 and bellhousing and it all worked fine.

Cool, So the gearbox bolts up?
Do you use the EA flywheel and clutch?
Do you use the EA tailshaft(manual) or the AU tailshaft (auto)?
When you say solder 2 parts of the ecu are you talking about the
inhibitor switch?
I am hoping to put an end to this mystery soon and document a conversion.
I was hoping someone who had done this conversion would pop up.

ea flywheel and clutch will do, just double check input spline count,

as for length of the transmission, the selector part of the e series manual is not long enough to reach the AU hohle, sou will have to use an AU selector. converting that can be a pain

as for soldering yes the inhabitor switch

as for documenting conversion ... i always forget to do it when i am at it ...

or the gearbox is not long enough to line the shifter up with the hole?
If the gearbox is to short, Do you know approx how far out?

as in gbox is not long enough ... i never tried it, but i have been told its about two inches too short

Hey guys couldn't find any other threads that looked to suit so i thought i would ask here is a conversion from Auto to manual on a AUII XR8 an expensive job looking for an estimate price and a good workshop in melbourne to do the job

You can find a Gear box for $2000 from FTG AS.

Or I know of a guy that has two AU V8 T-5's for $1950.

And I know of another through my work that has a AU V8 T-5 for $1200. I think he may have sold it though.

I think you'll need to track down the rest of the parts to do the conversion though. Which are more or less easy to find.
I.E.

- Gear knob
- Pedal Box
- ECU (If you wish)
- etc

As for a place, my mechanic will be doing my conversion on mine, and can do yours as well. NE Suburbs of Melbourne.

Diff Ratio is the same. 3.45:1.

For AUII XR8 Ute anyway. Should be the same for AUIII too.

Actually that $2000 from FTG AS, also included shipping to WA. So it might be like $1850, $1900.

Heres some numbers:

As good as i can tell:
Clutch: $300
Cable: $50 (Ford)
Clutch Pedal: $100 (Mal Wood)
(or Manual Pedal Box: ~$150)
Gear Knob: $80
Gear Boot: $40
Re-Solder Existing ECU: $100 (Auto-Elec)
(or ECU: $350)
Pressure & Friction Plate: ~$500 (Repco)
Rubber Pedals: ~$50
(or Alloy Pedals: ~$120)
Starter Motor: ~$150
Fitting: ~$500

So all up, your looking around: ~$1900, for the rest of the parts, and fitting.

But these gearboxes for sale, could come with a few of the parts. (I don't know, because I havent enquired).

And then on top of that price, you got short throw shifter, shortened gear lever, oil, and whatever else you want.

So worst case, your looking at $3500-4000. But then you have all new parts. If you source some used ones, you could probably come out cheaper. Then you can sell some gear to re-coup some of the costs. Auto + Tranny Cooler (if you have one) + Gear Knob + ECU (if you replace it).

they're so much cheaper on Eseries ;)

of course E series conversions are cheaper...

if it cost the same as an AU the conversion would be worth more than the E Series car its in ;)
