Default Tickford snorkel + EF airbox lid... how did it go?

Has anyone else done this mod? What were the effects of it? My AUIII seems to have a fair bit more "growl" past about 2000RPM, but I'd only had the car for a week before I did the mod and I'm generally fairly easy on the pedal anyway... so maybe I'm imagining things?

The gain would be greater if you also run a aftermarket air filter and get youres hands on a I6 BA intake runner but ive just installed a SS induction set-up and im about to put in a pigpipe as well so anything to help youre car breathe better is always a good thing.

hope that helps.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a 'pigpipe'? e

It is definately a positive step towards opening up the lungs for other modifications to take advantage of, such as exhaust / headers / chip. I've also noticed on my car that I can hear the air being sucked a little "louder."

I'm not planning on doing any further engine mods... that's why I asked the Q. The stock engine has plenty of power for me. I'm really noticing the extra sound at 2000+RPM now, kind of an extra drone above the growl of the engine working a bit, so it's gotta be the new intake stuff. I might swap back to the factory snorkel and box lid to see for sure.

Does more air equal higher fuel consumption? Mine seems to be using more fuel since I did the mod... or perhaps I'm just putting the foot down more. ;)

No, if anything.. it gets lower. But your mod will not really lower your fuel consumption much, if at all. Because..

It's a fairly noticeable difference though, like sitting at 18L/100km or more for suburban driving. With my 97 EL (not exactly ancient) it was usually 13.5 or lower and I'm pretty sure my first tank on the AUIII (before I did the mod) was similar or even better than that. I'm not taking off hard, just putting the pedal a bit further down in second to hear the engine sound. ;)

as I said earlier... I really need to swap back and see what happens.

I was just quoted $100 for an EF Airbox Lid in Brisbane at a large Ford dealer is there anywhere cheaper? The workshop article stated $30. Does anyone know anywhere cheaper?

Cost me about $60 from Bayford spare parts, I was also a bit surprised as I figured $30 was the new price. I guess the article writer got it from a wreckers.

Anyone wanna buy an AU airbox lid? Going cheap... :

When I finish my nancy boy mods, i'll be doing some mechanical stuff. On my list is the Tickford snorkel (My car is a tickford, but they must have run out of tickford snorkels and put a standard one on), Pig pipe, pod filter, JMM headers plus the rest of my exhaust and a unichip.

I have the EF airbox setup with the K&N & Tickford snorkel in my AU. I have just put a pod enclosed in the airbox in the EF which also has a bigger snorkel. The pod in the airbox is far better which has been a suprise.

The pod in the air box is the way to go with T/F snorkel & with the 3" mandrel intake throttle response is much better.
